Returning to my Street Fighter 'new generation' cast, this is Li Fen, one of many children adopted by Chun Li. She was originally a very minor character in SF3:3S where she was captured by Urien and had to be rescued by Chun Li. In SF5, she was given a much greater role in the cinematic story, A Shadow Falls, to which a very young (I'm guessing five years old) Li Fen was one of a number of hackers taken by Shadaloo for Operation CHAINS, thus, once again, she had to be rescued. I actually forgotten about her existence till SF5, and once I was reminded of her, I didn't have her name, nor did I have any idea how to redesign her as an adult for a while. On top of that, a then unnamed Choi Yi was initially made long before Capcom created Li Fen. Otherwise, Li Fen would've been the main female member of the 'Fatal Fury' gang. Eh... I suppose she could be the 'Blue Mary' of the group. Or maybe not.
Anyway, this version of Li Fen is legally the adopted daughter of Chun Li, as well as Chun Li's first student. Of all the pupils, Li Fen is Chun Li's best student, working the hardest of all the orphans, matched only by Chun Li's biological daughter, Choi Yi. As far as relationships in the family go, Li Fen looks up to Chun Li as her role model and hero, thus working her hardest to one day be as strong and courageous as her rescuer, while she relishes her role as big sister to Choi Yi. Due to the connections between much of the Street Fighter cast, Li Fen is also friends with the Masters children, sharing a bit of a friendly rivalry with the oldest son, Mel. Years later, during one of her visits to the Masters, tragedy struck as she learned that her home had been attacked, and Chun Li and Choi Yi went missing, making Li Fen an orphan once more. The news struck her so badly that for a moment she became withdrawn from the rest of the world. Taken in by Ken and Eliza Masters, she did manage to regain some semblance of happiness, though the scars from the loss remained. It would be another few years before she would be reunited with her little sister. Noticing the profound change in Choi Yi's personality, as well as her own guilt for not being there for her family, Li Fen vowed to remain by her sister's side as well as help mend the wounds Choi Yi suffered. It was the least she could do as her big sister.
Personality-wise, of the five members of the Masters/Chun Li gang, Li Fen is both the smartest and most mature of the group. When it comes to computers and technology in general, Li Fen is a genius amongst geniuses. Early life experiences has also given her wisdom beyond her years. As such, she was pretty much the one all the children in the orphanage looked up to. Not surprisingly, Chun Li would lean on Li Fen for help from time to time when it comes to training the pupils, looking after Choi Yi, and just keeping the house in one piece in general. Her time spent with her mother and hero helped her change from the fearful, soft spoken little girl to a strong, yet nurturing woman. She has also proven to be fairly resilient. Despite the loss of her home, Li Fen did manage to recover quite well (with help from others, of course), though she does at times act a little too overbearing and protective as a result. This is especially true in her current relationship with Choi Yi, causing the girls to butt heads from time to time.
Regarding her design, had some trouble figuring that one out. Wanted to look up and see what others have done (other than Chun's head placed on Sakura's body like in that Mugen design). I kinda sorta wanted to move away from her original design with the twin tails and all. It eventually clicked after looking at Choi Yi's design: since Cho Yi's costume bear's resemblance to Chun's Alpha costume, it's only natural that Li Fen would wear something resembling Chun's qipao. From Chun Li's SFV story, Chun Li gave Li Fen her ribbons, thus the ribbon and bracelets are from Chun's Alpha costume. So there, we have an outfit that is fitting to my made-up background. After that, she wears sneakers, because why not. As for the sketch itself, I guess it's passable. Not satisfied with the face, seeing that she looks maybe a little too young. The hair bugs me a little. At least it's not banana hair or Lion King hair, I think.
I write too much.
