After reading about the disgusting mess of a person who drove a van into a group of people - killing some, injuring others - and the resulting investigation which has revealed that the perpetrator labels himself as an “Incel”, I made the mistake of searching for more information on the subject. 

I didn’t know what an “incel” was - I’d never heard of the term before. 

Oh, boy. 

According to Urban Dictionary (not the best of sources, but I’m not writing a goddamn dissertation here), an “incel” is an “involuntary celibate” - usually male - who believes their lack of a sex life stems from being “ugly” or otherwise undesirable in terms of characteristic, social status, etc. 

In actuality, it is usually their entitled personality, misogynistic views, and, often, a mish mash of nationalistic, racist tendencies that are contributing to the aforementioned lack of a sex life. 

Horrifying, right? Couldn’t get worse, right? 

Wrong. 

I have come to find out via searching “incel” on Tumblr that there are attempts being made to validate “incels” by linking up with the Asexual community. Solidarity, you know? 

Guess fucking what. 

It is not the goddamn same. 

There is no fucking solidarity to be found within the Asexual community. An Ace person has a lack of sexual attraction. They might be celibate. They might not. They might be sex-repulsed. They might be sex-positive. There are a thousand nuances within the Asexual community (as there are within every other piece of the LGBT+ community). 

“Incel” is not a fucking identity. It is a an insult to women everywhere. These people go around with the assumption that any woman, anywhere owes them sex at anytime and the ONLY reason they’re not “getting it” is because they are ugly or poor or uneducated and the woman should be ashamed of herself for not “looking past their flaws” and bending over right then and there. 

You identify as an “incel”? Go fuck yourself and keep the name of the Ace community out of your filthy mouth while you’re at it. 

ex. “You’re such a good listener. You’re so generous, you’re so compassionate. You’re always there for me. You always hold me down. You’re reliable”
