Seemingly, in the two weeks since the end of EC's development, the community has not only reduced in size significantly (though prominent members have stuck around, fortunately) but has also gotten... a lot weirder in a bad way.
Interesting. Let's see how this community develops over the next two weeks... hopefully it gets better. I'm not a fan of the recent drama and I hate to see stuff like that in a community that I've become very reliant on.
Hmmm, I actually hadn't noticed that...
Were there more members in the EC Tumblr community? Or in the Discord? I joined the Tumblr community after the (not end, just transfer) of EC development.
Well, let's hope the community keeps afloat. I'll keep creating cattos, and I'm hoping that once I complete the queue of cattos, I can get out an animation with them.
OOC: Well, a big factor in all of this has been that since the game has stopped receiving updates, a lot of people who were only there for the game and not the community (which was a large chunk, and were the ones largely responsible for Oberorka losing passion to work on the game) left the community.
Most of the people left now are fandom veterans, and dedicated fans like you and me. And, that's a lot less than the number of people there were before.
Ohhh, I see, well, in some way, that's good, since it liberates some of the pressure towards the game, however if she restarts working, I feel like the wave will just come back.
OOC: Unfortunately, that's probably what will happen, if development ever does start again. The main reason the community exploded was some youtube videos on the game that just so happened to get popular back in October or so. I will confess, that's how I found out about the game in the first place, but I like the characters and the silly stuff that can be done with them. Most of the video-wave people were there for the game, got bored because it didn't have much in it (because it was still fresh and the webcomic was still the main thing), they started yelling at Oberorka to work on it constantly, etc. etc. You get the point.
Yea, that's why she even made the video about the fact that at heart, Element Cattos was a Webcomic, and must be seen as such.
OOC: And most people are deliberately blind. They see what they want to see and not what the should see. Now, nobody gets to have fun because people couldn't have some basic respect for a single dev working as a hobby.
sad :(
But crude internet reality.
OOC: That it is. I tend to avoid the main EC blog now, because whenever I see the 'indefinite hiatus' post, I start getting really anxious again, not as bad as when I first saw it, but... like, higher heart rate, my brain floods with negative thoughts. It impacted me a lot and I don't think I'll ever get over it at this rate.
That sinking feeling of dread at losing something valuable.
It's understandable, however, in her own words, she hopes that we can keep the Cattoverse going with our own activity, and that is what we're doing.
So, let's keep marching forwards, creating designs, and hoping that the community keeps growing. Albeit hopefully not in a bad way.
OOC: I'm trying my best. I can't guarantee anything though. If the community keeps getting weird in a bad way, like how it is currently, then I might have to call it short.
But, I do want to wait around to see the 2nd anniversary, at the very least. July 21st...
@europium-catto tell me what happened RIGHT NOW (involving your community I wANT TO KNOW :( )
