Friends to lovers is like a B... I think other variations on how you get to lovers tend to be more interesting to me but I've seen it done well. Primarily in Les mis fandom with Enjolras & Combeferre 🫶

Soulmates — Solid C. Would have been a D if not for reading the Heated Rivalry one that's also a daemon au where the soulmate mechanism is that your daemon can separate from you to go with another person if that person is your soulmate which is the most interesting and creative soulmate au mechanism I have ever seen. There are also ones with like, telepathic connections that can be interesting, and I read a good red string of fate one too.

Omegaverse — when it is bad....... oh boy is it bad. And a lot of it is mediocre. But when it is GOOD?????? I am now an omegaverse enjoyer unfortunately. Heated Rivalry fandom's fault. I give it an A in the way that the mean annual income in New York City is like $50k higher than the median because of income inequality. Quality inequality. I do actively seek it out.

Only one bed — Like a C.... I like inversions & subversions of it but it usually just feels kind of boring. Like. The conceit is generally that the people want to share a bed but don't want to admit it and now oh no, there's only one bed, they are forced to enjoy it. And that's just not interesting to me. I prefer various other bed arrangements where everyone knows where they stand on bed sharing!
