Ten Thousand Kicks
Bruce Lee may have said that he doesn’t fear the man who’s practiced 10000 kicks, but the man who’s practiced one kick 10000 times, if this was a joke… the punchline is Banana Kick.
These captions are diary entries reflecting on my banana kick.
@owendaveydraws told me that if you have to draw a cucumber, you need to think about how to draw a cucumber and make it interesting, and everyone does it in a different way. Their own way. And it’s important to know what your own way is.
And the way you figure out what your way is, is you do your 10000 kicks.
The first three times I drew a banana here I did it from imagination, today I used a reference and I noticed how interesting the textures on the banana are, the stories they tell. Each banana if you look at it is a canvas that paints a story.
So many stories, layers of stories on top of each other.
This particular banana had a scratch from being dragged, it has been at the bottom of a bunch, and dragged. And it bares that scar.

I suppose once you’re a writer of your height and success, you might not need as much praise from the general public as the average small writer. But I read enough from small writers that praising them, when I have access to them, has become habit.
So I just wanted to tell you that I just finished American Gods, and it was truly amazing. I’m very glad I finished the year with such a fantastic read. That’s all.
I don't think there are big writers or small writers. There are just writers. And I'm really glad you enjoyed American Gods. Thank you.
