Something that's stood out throughout all of the dialogue in the movie is just how controlled Simon's breathing is. He is always measuring his breathing, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly to calm himself down. As soon as I was listening for it I realized just how constant and intentional it was.
He's familiar with terror. He's learned how to manage it, either by teaching himself or being taught by another. The deep, controlled breathing, the tactile self-soothing with his sheath— that's practiced. Habitual.
