On the conversation of not knowing how to draw black people— I think many artists are unaware how their art styles inhibit their ability to draw diverse features and hair. And What I Mean by that is that people curate their artstyles purposefully to include no diversity at all— and I mean that with my whole chest. If all your characters look ethnically ambiguous, you purposefully curated an artstyle that does not include black and brown people at all. If you have solid anatomy and color theory and lineart and I can’t tell your asian character from your black character— you did that on purpose. And that doesn’t mean you were aware of it either— but art is very intentional. If there is no intentional inclusion then it’s intentional exclusion.

And no— this is Not Just about skin color.
