          “professor, i made stake tacos for dinner!” she made them an hour ago, and told him an hour ago, but he’s been lost in the lab. what’s he working on? buttercup flies down the stairs to the lab, trying not to be freaked out that two of the lights are flickering, and there’s a spider’s web in the corner. professor must be really busy to ignore that. he hates spiders as much as she does. christ. “professor! i’ll drag you upstairs if i have to.” 

        head turns to the mounted clock in reflex as the shouting from upstairs continues. he must have lost track of time as he always does –– if it weren’t for the girls, he would have forgotten to eat and starved himself to death already. a gruesome thought. yet food can’t come in the way of science, ‘ thank you, sweetie ! i just need five more minutes ––– or perhaps ten. ’
