I've been fixating on the story of Moses since watching The Ten Commandments about a month ago. At the heart of his story lies a terrible, troubling, heartbreaking reality--or multiple heartbreaking, troubling realities, as is often the case with Old Testament stories. He took hundreds, maybe thousands, of lives to fulfill the will of God, and through a moment of human ego was denied access to the Promised Land.

The portrayal of Moses in Ten Commandments reminds me of how the Kwisatz Haderach was exulted by the Fremen in Dune. Both Paul Atreides and Moses fulfill their wonderful, terrible divine destinies at the cost of human life. Troubling implications about destiny, no easy answers, lots to chew on.
