daella mimicked tyberius's posture folding her own hands behind her back. she traced each callous on her fingers, centering some of her boundless energy. the wind smelled of rain which would surely put a damper on the day and put an end to anymore quick stops. daella peered up at the rustling leaves, her eyes following small sparrows as they hopped around singing. tyberius's words washed over her and it took the young lady a moment to understand what he had said.
"weeks on the road are ever so tiresome, and the wedding will certainly be exhausting as well..." her voice trailed off. she turned her gaze and truly observed the prince. he was usually a bright and golden thing, he had a way of drawing people in without meaning too. something though about him felt dulled, it had been this way since the announcement of the betrothal. after an inordinate period of silent staring that would make even the most comfortable awkward daella turned away.
"it is going to rain," daella stated, the seemingly clear sky though seemed to contradict her statement.
daella was a quiet companion mostly and tyberius did not mind speaking with her. he enjoyed her company as most would with her quiet being and gentle way of speaking. She didn't sugarcoat up to him and he did find that comforting. at the mention of his wedding he turned to find daella looking at him. "is it going to be hard on you? watching the wedding?" he smirked to try and lighten the mood, knowing that there wasn't much daella needed to do but attend, him on the other hand? he'd have to say goodbye to the one he loved for a second time and then he would need to marry someone he didn't even know.
a sigh escaped his lips and as she mentioned the weather his eyes went up to the sky. the skies would weep tears he didn't feel like he had and perhaps letting the only ones weep to be the sky was the perfect ending of the travel to highgarden. "yes, it does seem like it is going to rain." he murmured in response before letting his eyes fall upon the young woman once more. "but sometimes rain can be just as comforting as a companions company." he smiled, wondering if daella ever saw herself as a friend to others, because in his mind - she was once, a friend of few words, sometimes the best of company.
daella watched the knights and servants scurrying around them. she knew that once they stopped they would be made to go back to their carriages. daella shuddered at the thought of more hours in such a cramped space. tyberius almost playful take on her words was to be expected, and yet she felt her heart pang for a man she could almost call a friend. "i have never been one for weddings, they are long and full of ceremony. perhaps this is why all my betrothals have thusly failed," she joked. her failed betrothals were both something she cared very little about and sometimes a sore subject. she cared not what those who refused her thought of her and yet in the dead of night she sometimes felt as though she had failed her parents. neither of them had lived to see her married despite their best attempts.
the wind picked up slightly, knocking a few of daella's curls loose. she relished in the feel of the air as it danced around them. a soothing balm and if she closed her eyes she could pretend she was home in the eyrie. "i wholeheartedly agree. sometimes i wish king's landing was a more stormy port. the rain is able to soothe wounds that hands cannot," daella looked up at tyberius and smiled. words that were not scientific or about her latest passion never came easy for her. that did not mean though that she would not try for the harder something is the more satisfaction is to be gained.
they had been on the road for a week now, there were still several stops and weeks ahead of them. daella spent most of her days practicing her stitches or reading. there was only so much one could do in a carriage for days on end, only so many times could you have the same conversations. and as much as she loved her friend’s she was getting tired. when she had been told that they were going to stop to give the horses a rest, daella nearly cried from relief. she took this brief stop as a chance to stretch her limbs and get her blood flowing again. she looked around at all of the knights and their pages scurrying around getting ready to once again return to their travels.
eventually her eyes fell upon tyberius his golden hair shining in the midday sun. she followed his gaze, and was not shocked regarding where it fell. she had been good friends, no, best friends with cassana for a very long time. from long before they became ladies-in-waiting. so it was no surprise when in the dim candlelight lady cassana had revealed her secret. daella had less been surprised but more concerned, her mind filled in the many ways things could go wrong. and wrong they had gone. daella felt for the young couple, if only tyberius had been betrothed to her, then it could just become another one of daella’s failed betrothals. perhaps then daella would have the sway to suggest an engagement between tyberius and cassana, but that was the sort of plan she would concoct deep into her cups that would undoubtedly fail. she approached tyberius cautiously like one would a wounded animal.
“your grace,” she curtsied, “how are you today? has the trip yet begun to take its toll?” she asked.

with his arms locked together behind his back tyberius took in the fresh air. he'd asked for them to stop wondering if his father would allow it. thankfully he had as the road seemed to go on forever and people were weary of being seated all the time. with the wind caressing his cheeks he let his eyes wander for a few seconds, finding cassana amongst his sister and their carriage. he clenched his jaw at the thought of her, but let his eyes drift back to the scenery before his loneliness was interrupted. turning slightly he found his sisters lady-in-waiting.
a smile was upon his lips as she approached him. he thought of daella as a kind young woman. she usually treated him kindly and perhaps too much with his title, but her company wasn't one he minded. A small chuckle escaped his lips at her words and he motioned the question back to her. "thankfully my father said yes to us stretching our legs." he smiled and turned completely to face her. "it seems i'm not the only one feeling weary from the travels, thankfully it is not that far until we've reached our destination." and he would meet his bride, the family which would forever be intertwined with his own. he wasn't ready, then again he believed he never would be.

the sun was shining and the sky was a bright shade of blue that seemed to invoke nostalgia. it was a lovely day for a walk through highgarden. some would see the easy choice as being through the lush gardens, with the ever present floral smell. this walk though would find someone near the stables to overhear a conversation between a lady and a kingsguard. “oh please ser, it’s not terribly out of the way,” she pleaded, gesturing with one hand to the map held by her other. “milady, i take orders from their majesties, and while i have allowed you, your,” he paused, his eyes wrinkled as he smiled jovially down at the stubborn lady, “excursions in king’s landing. this is one i cannot bend to. i’m sure you understand.” “of course i do. i apologize i would hate to get you in any sort of trouble. you have been a good friend to me ser, i will take my leave. i must return to her grace.” daella curtsied quickly, folding up her map. she walks off with a slight stomp in her step, while she respects his decision and would hardly try to question it or pull rank, she still really wanted to go. alas she would have to see the citadel another day. and it’s not like they would let her in anyways… maesters and their rules.
daella ever lost in her thoughts, not paying attention when she accidentally slammed into someone. nonsensical apologies spewed from her mouth as she stumbled up to her feet, finally able to take a look at her unwitting victim.
