Nonsan, South Korea 🇰🇷 is known for its fertile soil. It’s called the "Agricultural City" of South Korea. The most important crop is rice. Although Nonsan is Korea's highest strawberry 🍓-producing region, you will find the best quality strawberries here. Do you know why South Korea is doing best in agricultural and related science? There are many reasons; I will write about them one day. One of the reasons is that Korea has good agricultural research and extension services. The Nonsan Strawberry Experiment Station is one of the best research centers. Because this area is ideal for strawberries, they establish a research center here. This research institute has already launched different varieties and is working on different aspects of strawberry research. They also doing research with Japanese varieties, and farmers are already growing two Japanese varieties. According to JoongAng Daily, "strawberries grown in Nonsan are of various types: seolhyang, maehyang, geumhyang, janghi (akihime), and yukbo (red pearl)." Maehyang and Seolhyang strawberries are considered the most popular strawberry varieties in South Korea, earning the Prime Minister's Award. Janghi is the most grown strawberry in Korea. However, Seolhyang is the sweetest. Other important crops of Niosan are ginseng, napa cabbage, watermelon, and Korean pears. Sesil, the world's third-leading producer of insects for natural pest control, is also situated here. Above all, Nonsan is known for its "Spring Strawberry Festival." Asia experienced its coldest winter on record in 2023. This year, most Asian countries are facing the coldest days in their histories. Tongulah in Siberia, Russia 🇷🇺, had recorded -62.7 °C, a new record low in the history of the world. On January 22, Mohe, China 🇨🇳 in the country's northernmost province (Heilongjiang), recorded a chilly -53 °C (-63.4 °F), the lowest temperature ever measured in China. The coldest day of the season gripped South 🇰🇷 on January 23. The lowest apparent temperature for Seoul was minus 25.5 degrees, while that of Cheorwon was minus 39.3 degrees, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said. This is the coldest winter in 36 years. This year, more than 162 Afghans 🇦🇫 died in bitterly cold weather. Additionally, nearly 80,000 livestock were killed. The lowest temperature was 34 °C (January 10th), and snowfall or ice accretion was 30 cm, according to Reuters and the Minister of Disaster Management. The coldest winter in 15 years On January 25 and 26, the cold hit Japan 🇯🇵, causing several local records to fall—for example, Hokkaido recorded -24.9 °C, Otawara (16.4 °C), and Kousa (-9 °C). Kalam (KP), Pakistan 🇵🇰 records -16.5 °C on the 17th and 26th of January 2023, and is also the coolest place in the world, with a -8.7 °C mean monthly minimum temperature (Pakistan Meteorological Department, 2023). Delhi, India 🇮🇳, recorded the season's lowest temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius on January 16 (NDTV). Finally, Southeast Asia was visited, but no records were set there. On the other hand, the Yuanmou Province of China 🇨🇳 temperature during January was +31 °C, and in Myanmar 🇲🇲, it was +30 °C, according to climatologist M. Herrara. You run for an opportunity that you think is good for you and work hard to get it. But somehow you miss the opportunity to get it at the end; don't give up hope that Allah has a better plan for you. Just because it's a good opportunity doesn't mean it's good for you. What you can do is keep trying; success and failure are in the hands of God, and you have to satisfy and obey the final decision of God. This is the sentence I believe and will always remember. I got UNFCCC, COP27 - Climate Change Conference - a delegation from two organizations with full funding and got my visa also. But I would not be able to join. I have no regrets about hoping that God has a good plan for me. I have the intention to do something good for the sake of my country and villagers, who are climate-affected people. The Korea Forest Service (Korea Forestry Ministry) and my scholarship organization, Kofpi, recently invited me to a three-day workshop. The title was "Joint Training for Scholarship Students from Developing Countries". It was an exciting event for me. I share my thesis with other scholars, and I learn a lot about what types of research other scholars are doing. Besides this, discussions about climate change and international communication give a solid knowledge of those topics. Also, side-seeing and games were very interesting to me. It helps me interact with future researchers and professionals. We spent three days in Korea's best SoopCheWon (a place of relaxation and experience in nature), Hoengseong, Gangwon-do. Fifteen scholars from different countries attended the workshop. It was a good time to live in the deep jungle for three days with talented scholars from other parts of the world.
