All I Do Is Read

Danny finds out he's a clone of one of the Gotham vigilantes, thanks to a random lore drop from his parents.

Problem is, he doesn't know which one, since his parents didn't remember or make a note of it, and the ectoplasm his DNA was dunked in upon half-dying makes any kind of blood work totally corrupted.

He's managed to narrow it down by excluding whichever vigilantes didn't appear until after his birth (creation? birth), but that still leaves too many to make much difference.

Still, he keeps a closer eye on news about Gotham's vigilantes, he's making comparisons, finding similarities, noting differences, between all of them and himself.

With his template being a vigilante but not knowing which, it's hard to attribute these observations to being a template thing, a vigilante thing, or a Danny thing.

He could spend all day analyzing masked faces for any shred of familiarity, but he's already having an identity crisis, and he has better ways to spend his time and bigger things to worry about. So the clone flavored crisis can sit in the back of his mind and wait its turn.

Nightwings: Hold on, there's a civilian running around. Early twenties, black hair, super pale and kind of sickly lookin. He looks panicked, like hes looking for something or someone, I'm going to check in, in case its a child.

Nightwing: Excuse me sir, are you alright?

Danny, pressing a hand to his chest in pain: So-Someone broke into my-my appartment when I was at work and-and they left the door open, and now I can't find Mittens!

Red Robin, over comms: Seriously? All this drama over a cat?

Red Hood, over comms: Who actually names their cat "Mittens"?

Oracle, over comms: You two are so stupid.

Robin, over comms: I agree, shut up. This is serious, that poor animal could be injured.

Nightwing, helps Danny sit on a nearby bench: Hey its alright man. I'll have the others keep an eye out for her okay? What does your kitten look like.

Danny, releived: Mittens isn't a kitten, shes a puppy, really tiny girl. She's a Bully Kutta, and she's mostly white but has black unclipped ears and some black splotches- here I have a-a picture. *pulls out his phone with shakey hands and shows Nightwing a picture of Danny and Mittens in their new appartment, Mittens goes up past his hips*

Red Robin, over comms: That is "tiny" to him?!

Oracle: Found him. Daniel Fenton moved to Gotham with his Service Dog in Training, Mittens, two months ago. He works at Gotham's Space Museum, and writes Parnormal Fiction stories on the side, and he apprentantly visits Middle schools to do presentations. Mittens is 15months old and is set to graduate very soon. She has high praise from all her trainers, but it seems Danny's employers at the Museum are pushing against him bringing her to work once she graduates, Danny seems to be fighting with them about it a lot. Jerks.

Batman, over comms: What does he need her for?

Oracle, over comms: Heart problems, and mobility issues caused by an accident when he was a teenager, as well as Anxiety, and PTSD. A lot of his file is sealed because he was a minor when it happened, I can snoop more?

Batman, over comms: No, that amount is fine.

Nightwing: Well, the others know, and will keep an eye out for her. You're still shaking pretty bad, how about I see you home.

Danny: I appreciate it. I'm sorry for keeping you back, being a hero is- seems like an exhausting job.

Nightwing, joking: You speak from experience?

Danny, eyes distant: No, I was never a hero.

Robin, over comms: Mittens spotted near the Museum!

Nightwing: Hey, Robin said he spotted Mittens near the Museum.

Danny: She went looking for me, of course she did. If she won't go to Robin by name, have him call her "Vöttr", I'm the only one that ever calls her that, so it will catch her attention.

Nightwing, nodding: Robin call her Votter.

Danny, shrugging: Its a hobby.

Nightwing, snorts: Robin wants to know if he can pet her.

Robin, over comms: Understood, we will reconvene at Fenton's appartment.

Nightwing: Hah that kid. He said he'll meet us at your place if thats okay.

Danny: Sounds good, I'm just happy that I didn't loose her.

he gets transmigrated into some small but also large clan of teal tailed fox demons, hes the 3rd son and he has 2 younger sisters who end up getting rescued by luo binghe while on a hike, it was normal until they ran across a giant feather tailed boa-constrictor who tried to eat them but ended up only poisoning them

luo binghe returns them to the estate expecting some celebratory sex

instead shen yuan drags them off to the infirmary, mixes up the solution and boom their fine

luo binghe who now says that he needs some sort of reward for saving them

shen yuan says he’ll go, take him, he’ll be the reward

luo binghe who is satiated from a good night of sex

shen yuan who gathers him into his arms, kisses him on the temple and forehead, than tells him hes so happy he gets the chance to see luo binghe everyday

And everyone knows Xian Shu is known for their beauties and then there’s the new little black sheep. She’s pretty but she doesn’t try to do anything with her appearance and more often than not she’s getting herself into more trouble than she means to (that’s partially where the black sheep nickname comes from bc her luck is just horrendous and others know) and of course, some people are mean and make fun of her “plain” appearance and how she doesn’t try but the Xian Shu girls LOVE HER

She lets them practice hair styles on her bc she can’t be bothered to do her own hair, lets them practice make up, and she’s a great tutor when it comes to academics (i think it would be cool if she had an eidetic memory), a prodigy really. And best of all, she’s the best editor and critic on the peak for the book club. If you’re looking for a specific book she either has it or knows where to get it. Her yellow book collection is astonishing.

And then Luo Binghe meets her. Shen Yuan is making a delivery of textbooks (yellow books) to tutor Ning Yingying (talk about smut) and Yingying introduces them and Shen Yuan sees Binghe’s manual and is like “dude this is the most incorrect thing I’ve ever seen” so she takes up tutoring him and to Binghe he has just met the nicest, more beautiful fairy ever and he loves her big glasses and her messy robes and that she never wears her hair up because sometimes when they’re doing physical practice like sword forms and stuff she lets him comb it and put it up so it’s out of the way

Summary:

Shen Yuan transmigrates as Zhan Yuan, a child raised in the Warm Red Pavilion. His first go at attempting Cang Qiong Mountain Sect trials is ruined by his being sold to another brothel. His full courtesan duties are expected of him by sixteen—he meets a young Luo Binghe just shy of that. They both make it to the Cang Qiong Mountain Sect trials and Zhan Yuan is accepted at Qing Jing Peak. It isn’t a bad life, but his past never quite seems to escape him. (or, divergent courtesan shen yuan au where he gets to be a disciple this time)

“It seems we have an unprecedented situation in candidate selection,” Yue Qingyuan said, kindly. “Two of our Peak Lords have made very strong insistence on taking Zhan Yuan as a disciple.”

“What?” Shen Yuan couldn’t help say and then snapped his mouth shut. He definitely looked like an idiot—he was dehydrated, sweaty, and not entirely sure he wasn’t hallucinating.

Yue Qingyuan very nicely didn’t linger on the awkwardness. “As both Peak Lords are very… impassioned about their selection, we have decided that Zhan Yuan should choose which peak he thinks would suit him best.”

Shen Yuan was only sixteen, he couldn’t be having a stroke, right? Was that age dependent? Maybe it was an aneurism. 

Both Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu had moved so Shen Yuan could see them on opposite sides of Yue Qingyuan. They both looked expectant, like of course Shen Yuan was going to choose them.

emperor bing-ge gets a prophecy that he needs an empress to truly gain happiness so he starts testing out the wives for the position, mostly in order--Yingying is a little too cheerful and nothing gets done cos she won't order anything of consequence as she doesn't want to bother anyone, Mingyan flat out refuses cos its too much work (or she makes citizens rpf her danmei book plots)

the less said about the twelve hours Sha Hualing was empress the better, related this is also why he does not try the little palace mistress out (she does not take that well)

qin wanyue seems overwhelmed, qin wanrong is easily distracted, qiu haitang is passable but then stops paying attention to anything remotely relevant and he runs into the issue that all his human wives don't give a fuck about the demons and his demon wives don't care about the humans and his etc wives have their own issues, like his tree spirit wife who can't understand the passage of time and either takes two seconds for a question asked during an audience or six hours

eventually everyone, including the wives is tired of this shit and bing-ge spends a while tracking down the source for the prophet who created this prophecy and it's this weird ass hermit guy who spends most of his day looking at different monsters and traveling through towns handing out herbs and shit for various minor ills and has an eclectic but good reputation among all the villagers

and bing-ge is like WTF is this and the hermit guy (shen yuan obviously) was misquoted by this ancient prophetic being he had NO IDEA was using him for anything (they sensed his otherworldly presence) and thought he was merely discussing fan theories like in the forums--SY gets really annoyed and was like "I DID NOT say that, I said, if Bing-ge wants to be truly happy he needs to find someone who will love and accept him and SHARE his burden, like an empress. I mean if I had to pick one of the wives, I'd go with liu mingyan she's clearly the best."

insert bing-ge following hermit nerd shen yuan around trying to figure out what the fuck is his deal and plotting revenge on how he wasted like an entire year on this shit and it almost fucked up his entire rule and meanwhile shen yuan is doing his usual head pat, ooo tell me about monsters and cool fights appreciation thing and wifebeaming the hell out of him

then bing-ge figures it out and is like hey out of curiosity what are your ideas for the 3 realms that an empress should do and shen yuan has thought extensively about this now that he's seen some of the world building in person and comes up with some TOP NOTCH ideas (including universal childcare) that bing-ge starts slowly testing out and people go bonkers for--and his ideas are for everyone not just humans or demons

bing-ge tries to bait him with terrible things he's done to get him to reject him but shen yuan is like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pobody's nerfect and passing all the tests thinking about how cool it is he gets to explore the world and be friends with bing-ge

meanwhile bing-ge is getting official empress shit together and planning a wedding for him and shen yuan

LBH after returning from abyss decides to bridenap/steal away SQQ. Only he needs to make sure no one notices so decides he's going to use artifact to glamor MBJ to pretend to be SQQ.

LBH: It's fine just stay in the bamboo house and hide behind a fan and look annoyed at everyone they'll think he's maybe qi deviated back to whoever he was before... maybe it'll stop LQG hanging around.

MBJ isn't happy but LBH isn't giving him much choice, he just tells SQH he's pout on a mission and to take care of the North.

MBJ is sitting around sulking in this boring house and annoyed cause he wanted to spend time with Qinghua... only for SQH to walk in calling him 'bro' and MBJ is mad at how close SQH is to SQQ until SQH instantly starts talking about his king.

MBJ just sitting face blank as Qinghua gushes about him, how handsome his king, and how much of a brat he is leaving him to do all the work while out a mission he's lucky he's handsome enough to get away with it ect ect. Qinghua is equal parts complaining and praising him.

It isn't until SQH gets a good look at SQQ without fan and.... that isn't his bro's bitchy look... Oh gods he knows that bitchy look....
