It's genuinely hilarious to me, and by hilarious, I mean it pisses me off so fucking much, how a lot of these authors will just gloss over the little, liiiiiiiiitle canon fact that Jet wanted to kill Sokka. Had the Freedom Fighters try and stop him from interfering with his plans, and it plays a huge fucking part in why Sokka hates his ass. Like you know, aside from the fact Jet lied and manipulated his sister, and Aang, or the whole trying to kill innocent people thing. Which these fics will keep THOSE aspects intact, they'll let Sokka be angry about the Katara and Aang thing, the near mass murder thing, but they'll just conveniently leave out the personal effects of Jet's actions against Sokka himself.

And why would they? In order for Jetko to add a little ''spice'' to a Zukka fic, they can't POSSIBLY have Sokka ever mention it, especially not to Zuko! Who, of course, will always have a small history with him because Zuko fans will always find a way to pass him around a bit before ''giving'' him to Sokka completely. Zuko isn't allowed in a Zukka fic to ACTUALLY hate Jet because of the way he hurt Sokka, no no, that's apparently taboo.

So applying ''slop'' to any queer dynamic is bad. Extremely bad. It implies that the mere fact a ship is gay is bad and that's just straight up homophobic, like we've circled right back around to media needing to remain heteronormative because now even fandom is taking queer dynamics, queer ships and calling them bad. Like how can that be anything but a terrible fucking idea?!

It's one thing to defend canon no matter how terrible it is for representation, but applying those strict rules to fandom is the death of it. You'll kill the art fans pour their heart and soul into for fucking what exactly? Straight people's approval? Maintaining the hetero status quo? Who the fuck wants that?
