For Ace, Aro And AroAce People

I’ve seen a lot of posts for us to make our own community and talk about our issues on our own, so I decided to make a safe space for us.

It’s a little bare, since I made it on mobile, so it’s going to be majorly mobile friendly, and only two mods is on it- myself and my boyfriend but we’ll take in applications.

What this space is for:

- Anything from/by A-Spec people on issues they face

- Jokes, Community based Art, Acceptance Posts

- Talks of oppression and of abuse they may face

- Resource collection and distribution

- Flag’s for anyone’s needs, reblogged and not just taken

- General dialogue and venting

What this space is not for:

- Discoursing

- To mock others

- Homophobia, Transphobia, Monosexism, Biphobia or NBphobia

- Racism and Antisemitism is not allowed

- Politics unrelating to A-Spec issues

- Ableism

- For non A-Specs to comment on

What this blog is:

- A space for A-Spec people in response to being told to make our own community.

- A space for A-Spec people to feel safe on.

- A space for people to explore their identity and ask questions on their identities

- Inclusive of both SAM and non-SAM users

What this blog isn’t:

- Trying to call itself an LGBT+ space

- A place made out of bigotry, exclusionism or by someone who falls into either

The goal of this place is for a-specs to discuss issues on their own community. It’s inclusive of all a-spec identities, however it’s not an overlapping blog. It’s a space outside of the LGBT+ community just for anyone who would fall under the A-Spec umbrella. It’s for us, by us. And is open to be followed by anyone who would be under this umbrella.

Uh. Well. Fun fact. I’m Mod D and I came to the conclusion I was Gay and questioning my Aro/Aceness.

But A) I identified as bisexual because I was 14, and as I grew up, my sexuality changed with that. I still thought I was bi because I had an equal attraction towards both genders (I had no clue what nonbinary was at the time). I later figured out I was ace bc I didn’t really “feel that way” towards anyone outside of manga/book characters. At this point, I was 17-19.

About two years ago. I realized in the midst of my relationship I didn’t know what a romantic attraction was. So I came to the conclusion I was probably Aromantic as well.

This is also complicated because I am a system and I don’t know how much that influenced my sexuality over time.

Right now I’m still uncertain. I would say I’m Gay/Ace, but the exploration wasn’t in an epiphany moment, and even now I’m still trying to navigate myself.

It could be multiple things and we’re not comfortable telling you which it is, it could be  Amatonormativity or it could be a multitude of factors we can’t define. Just know that you know yourself best and that you do not need to figure out your orientation right away. Just take your time and think it over.

You’re not less LGBT because of it, though this really toes the line of being inclusionist/exclusionist discourse.

While mods are inclusionist, we don’t like getting into the “ace people are included” as we want this space free of exclusionist harassment.

Yes, wanting a romantic relationship and having romantic feelings are separate. The former can be a result of Amatonormativity and isn’t an indication of if you’re aro or not.

(2/2) I've never been able to quite pin down a romantic orientation, and since I'm not disgusted by sex as a concept (unless it includes me) and I don't really know my romantic orientation, I've never felt comfortable calling myself LGBT+ even though I know I'm not straight and likely not cis either. I just feel like I don't belong to any community because I don't have the answers, so what right do I have to label myself in that way? I hope that makes sense. I just feel really isolated I guess

I’m answering this in multiple parts, but first of all. We do not really like touching the “am I LGBT+” portion since this blog was made as an Aspec hub more so than a general community- though anyone except bigots can follow- and we prefer it not be included in asks like this since we generally don’t allow it.

Your friend is wrong about the anti-social portion, and as an ace person, you do not need to be repulsed by sex as a concept.
