The fact of the matter is, the USA really is that evil. The USA is the only country to use nuclear weapons in wartime and deliberately targeted civilian population centers. It is the only nation with the amount of the overseas bases it has. It is the only nation to not be a party to any swath of international treaties, including one on the rights of children, because they value the abolity to be Protestant social reactionaries more than they value coexisting with rest of the world.
The USA sends more Christian missionaries than other top 5 nations combined, and spends more on its militaries than other top 5 nations combined. It is the only country to vote against lifting the blockade on Cuba that it has been keeping up for decades, among other human rights resolutions it keeps voting against in the name of "we should be able to do what we want." It is a nation with a mindset of a toddler holding dangerous weapons that it has show. willingness to use. Even by their flawed definition and application of the term, the USA is a uniquely bad entity on the global stage.

University refuses to investigate DEI star’s plagiarism
Half of the main article against Jason Arday's PHD and body of work, written by Nathan Cofnas, is an obvious racist hit piece against the entire field of sociology, and its study of racism.
People are still treating it like a genuine assessment of the situation and making excuses for the writer. It's absolute bullshit. The entire reason he wrote this is for it to be used against a field he hates, and against Black people in higher education.
Because Nathan Cofnas is a massive racist.

Giving the game away a little by explaining that section 8 housing tidbit. It reveals this isn't written with fellow British academics in mind - It is appealing and signalling to USAmerican right wingers.
Right away getting into the ableism. There are no real reasons to believe he was lying about his own history that I've seen. Everyone is just assuming he lied because they think it's unlikely. The child diagnosed with developmental delay took very long to fully develop. Makes sense to me?

The hitpiece goes on to nitpick on how many marathons Jason Arday said he ran, money he claimed to raise for charity, and how little he said he slept? Absolute nonsense
At worst the guy had a minor issue with exaggerating some numbers. Pretending he was anything remotely close to even a minor celebrity, as a sociology professor focused on Black studies, is just as absurd as acting like having a popular tumblr blog makes you famous. It's still an incredibly small niche group that's just sorta familiar with your name, and all it gets you is death threats and harassment.
Did he actually do any plagiarism? I don't know. Maybe, depends on how strict your definition is.
Nathan Cofnas ran Jason Arday's work through 'the plagiarism-detection program Copyleaks'. I don't know how reliable it is. However at least to me, some of the examples just appear to be similar not because Jason Arday is copying the other paper, but because both papers are citing the same source? Like there are only so many ways to accurately report the thesis of the work you're citing.
Anyway you can check more examples in the link and make up your own mind. I don't think a man who was indeed guilty of plagiarism would deserve any of this anyway. It's genuinely not the point of writing this at all.
Cofnas then starts going through 10 of Arday's sociology papers basically mostly to shit talk them and expose the presumed USAmerican right wing reader to the wacky, unscientific study of critical race theory.
The clear intent here is to create outrage against the idea of academia having a racism problem. Because again Cofnas thinks racism is not a problem, he thinks it's a good thing.
Like most of this is just making normal sociology papers sound sinister, lazy, and made up.
Like this shit is just inventing an unreasonable standard for perfectly normal papers, mostly focused on preliminary examinations of specific racial issues. He's writing down and formalising the stories people of colour have about racism. That's literally the first step. Further study and academic discussion happens after the base had been built, and the methodology is not the same in every field.
What systematic analysis were you expecting? Why? That's not the point of the paper? Just say you think autoethnography is fake and move on
He declares Arday is not a real scholar and his whole field is bullshit basically. And the whole thing is a politically motivated DEI hire situation.
There's a huge cover up! They wanna purposefully use affirmative action to take places in academia away from the white people who deserve it more! I'm the real victim here because they didn't like my racist tirades!

Also, just to note, the claim of 'oh this isn't a real article, it's just some anecdotes from a few people' is a massive double standard. Medical papers do that all the time.
What happens is that someone not in a research position, or without access to funding, usually in practice, notices something interesting (or concerning) that is worthy of study. This can be in one person, or a few people. And because they do not currently have access to the resources needed to conduct a full study as a result, they write up that information and publish it so that the wider community can be informed. So that, maybe, someone can actually look into this interesting thing! That might even correlate with some other accounts they have read, actually, when you start looking into the literature. They're called case studies, and they're pretty useful.
Because actually, it's quite important to publish small anecdotal papers on areas of interest! They don't have to come to a distinct conclusion, and in fact they shouldn't. Their value to science is to form a basis for why further studies should be performed, and to let other researchers know that this, here, is an interesting and understudied thing that may be worth looking into.
This applies to many areas of academia, but for some reason it's far more mocked in the humanities.
Feel like it's also worth reiterating that like. While it might not be great, plagiarism in and of itself is completely legal in the UK. It's not a crime. It's an academic misconduct issue, where the realistic worst case scenario is being fired and having your qualification revoked. That's it.
Which makes it absolutely fucking unhinged that Jason Arday was hounded to death because of it.
