Lavi lashing out at Lenalee for being upset about Allen because he's angry with himself for not being there to protect Allen.

And then Bookman immediately telling him off for having those emotions-

I'm looking at the background of these two. Lenalee is in the light despite her agony over not being able to protect Allen and so is Lavi when he lashes out because these emotions may be negative but that's what makes them human but when Bookman reminds Lavi of his "place" in life and both of them are cast in black.

The use of these backgrounds are so interesting and intentional. We're supposed to feel the suffocation caused by the black background from the words Bookman tells Lavi here. We're supposed to see how he's torn between being Lavi and being a Bookman.

Bookman here looks terrifying here but what is also interesting is the gray he's now in. Bookman is confident of his role as a person who is on neither side, who is just here to record the history he sees.

But Lavi is still cast in that suffocating black. And then it switches to white background again but Lavi himself is coloured in that opressive blackness, as if to show his hesitance to accept his role like Bookman does.

- the way Allen is standing on the bed above Lavi in the very first page (self-explanatory) (I'm ill)

- how Allen goes "close your eyes" (i don't want the image of me stabbing you to be in your head) and how Lavi answers "don't think about me, this thing is a surveilling eye" (just get it over with my sole presence here is endangering you and I'm tired of it) and how Allen answers "come now" (don't be ridiculous, what are you even talking about) - and the way they go at this whole exchange so calmly and sweetly I'm eating concrete they're so precious to each other how do I deal? I don't, that's how

- "I'm so happy to see you again, Lavi" (instant death to me I'm in shambles)

- the way Lavi looks at Allen when he mentions the "he who resides in me" - atp Lavi should have zero clues about the whole "the previous Junior is part of me" deal so does he think Allen's talking about Neah? Is that why he calls Allen "the host" and tells him he's a mystery to him when he later wakes up? Did he for a moment there think that Neah was happy to see him? This is driving me nuts and it's completely inconsequential given that the possible misunderstanding immediately gets cleared but did he? Did he have the greatest what the everloving fuck moment there? I'll probably never know and that's driving me crazy

- this panel and how it reminds me so much of this other panel

and how in both instances Allen tells Lavi there's no way he's letting him die - how Crown Clown has been used to save Lavi's life twice already and how it'll always be safety and a shield to him (how this is the second time Allen tries to exorcise the noah out of him and how this time it actually WORKS) it's so!!!! It's so!!!!!!!!!!! OUGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I swear I have actual thoughts on this but you'll just have to trust my word for it i fear there's no way I'm being coherent rn
