A reminder to get your women’s wellness check: At the end of spring/beginning of summer I went in for a check up. My dr ended up finding a small lump in my right breast, we got me scheduled for an ultrasound which then lead to a biopsy at the beginning of June. When the biopsy came back I was told that I have Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia (ADH), long story short, my cells grow rapidly and don’t have time to disperse causing them to clump. The lump was deemed benign but due to family history & my diagnosis it was recommended I have it removed because it could become cancerous. After meeting with my surgeon, I had an MRI done to make sure I did not have any other concerns. Once my MRI came back as clear as it could be & the doctors did not find anything else, my surgery was scheduled & I had the lump removed in July. With my ADH & family history I will now have to go back & fourth between ultrasounds & MRIs every 6 months including follow ups with my surgeon, once turning 30 my MRI’s will transfer over to mammograms & I am also in the process of decided whether or not to get tested for the cancer gene (life insurance policies are able to hold this against you if it is positive). 13 out of every 100 women with ADH get cancer within 10 years of being diagnosed, combine this with my family history & I have about a 30% chance of getting breast cancer within the next 10 years. So please let this be your reminder to get your boobies checked.
