….this overlap and therefore gap is a potential weakness for a whole society, just as it is for an individual. (the seven deadlies all abuse concepts of good, especially in extremis)

….when a society says (by average or generality) that everyone is unacceptable, no matter what ideal they uplift. Each component of the whole pointing collectively at another, shaking it’s metaphorical head and desiring its downfall. It is at such a point that sensibility has been lost; and, only heaven and the heart of character can return that society to balanced sanity.
