A lot of people do it as an act of surrender. There’s so much power in worshipping a holy God, and for me, as I open my arms and lift them high, that in and of itself is an act of worship. It’s opening all I have to Christ and praising Him in my song. Sometimes, I can’t even help it. It’s as if I can’t get close enough, so I reach out to God whether in my asking for His presence or my glorifying His name. I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary, no, and I don’t think people who don’t experience less Jesus than those who do. We each worship differently. Some people raise their hands, some sing their own songs, some dance before the Lord and some sit in silence at times- it’s all beautiful and unique when our hearts are engaged and praising His name.
