Here we have the great Canadian actor and writer (Sprung Rythm) Paul Gross from the series "Due South", which debuted in 1994. Ten years earlier, in 1984, I met up with him in Toronto to begin this portrait of him for my Canadian Author Series (1 of 32).
Globe & the Mail ask Allan Hawco: My getaway
(Nov 10 2010)
Florence [was] one of my favourite places that I've ever been to in my life. … I went there and to Tuscany with some friends after graduating theatre school in 2001. It was a spectacular, art-filled adventure. Every day was different, discovering more about the place. That, for me, is an ideal vacation. In Tuscany and Florence, it was extremely refined. We didn't do Europe en masse. We focused all of our energy in one place. We learned a lot of history of the region and saw every piece of art you could possibly see. I was mesmerized by the Statue of David and understood why it's so famous. You could tell what was so special about it - you could feel it. I'd certainly like to go back.
Allan Hawco is nominated for a best-actor Gemini for his lead role in CBC's Republic of Doyle. The Gemini Awards gala airs Nov. 13 on Global.

Hawco Productions aims to build on Saint-Pierre success
CEO Allan Hawco discusses how the prodco is more than a vehicle for him as an actor and creator (Monday, June 15 | 3:15pm - 4:00pm)
How do you turn budget constraints into creative advantages instead of roadblocks? What makes a pitch stand out in today’s crowded film and TV landscape? Join the team from Hawco Productions as they dive into their business and development strategy, and their mission to bring “YES” to everything creative. Founded by actor, writer and producer Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle, In Cold Light), the company blends originality with a strategic approach to production — but how does that translate into a global success like Saint-Pierre?

Allan & tourism at St. John's, NL (Nov 2015)
"I grew up in a town called the Goulds, which is just outside St. John's—which is part of St. John's—which kind of makes me a townie.
No self-respecting bayman would let me claim myself as a bayman, and the townies never accepted me—so I'm very conflicted ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯"

In my opinion, Allan Hawco (above as character Jake Doyle), is pretty easy on the eyes. Imagine my excitement when we received a note in our mailbox saying they would be filming the opening episode of season 4 on our street! We needed to move our car so they could block the road for a scene where an Irish driver/criminal, was driving on the wrong side and almost hits several cars. How do I know this? The location manager left his card on our door and said we should call him.

Totally practical - and totally uncool
Published February 10, 2010
Allan Hawco is one of Canada's hottest young actors. He plays Jake Doyle, a cool, suave, romantic rogue and private investigator, on CBC's new series, Republic of Doyle. On TV, his ride is a retro muscle car, a 1968 Pontiac GTO. In real life, Hawco drives a more practical vehicle around the Rock: a 2010 Toyota Tacoma truck (luckily, not one of the vehicles recalled for a faulty gas pedal).
