CHEERING and roaring filled the air and echoed through your chest like thunder. The kind of sound that made everything feel bigger than life.
Even in the VIP section, even with comfortable seats and a perfect view of the field it still felt overwhelming. The lights were brighter up close, the screens impossibly huge, the crowd a sea of jerseys and waving arms.
You sat between your sister and your mom, leather jacket halfway zipped, hands tucked into the sleeves like you were trying to ground yourself. The air smelled like popcorn and something smoky from the food stands and the cold buzz of anticipation sat right under your skin.
Your sister, Andrea, (peep the name) glanced over, immediately clocking your behavior âYouâre nervous.â
You scoffed, turning toward her with a look. âIâm not nervous. Iâm⊠appropriately excited.â She gave you a look like sheâd known you your entire lifeâŠ..which, unfortunately, she had.
âI am serious,â you insisted, lips twitching. âIâm literally fine. Iâm just sitting at the Super Bowl like itâs a casual Sunday waiting for my boyfriend to PERFORM.â
Your mom smiled softly, leaning closer, her voice warm over the noise. âItâs okay to be nervous mija. This is a big night.â You nudged her shoulder playfully. âMom, youâre the one whoâs been taking deep breaths like youâre about to go on stage.â
She gasped, almost offended. âThat is not true.â Andrea immediately pointed at her. âIt is true. Sheâs been doing the little inhale exhale thing since we sat down.â
Your mom pressed a hand to her chest, trying to look dignified. âIâm just⊠emotionally present.â You laughed, the sound getting swallowed by the stadium anyway. âEmotionally present. Okay.â
Your dad sat on your other side, posture relaxed, watching the field with that quiet focus he always had. âItâs a big night for him,â he said calmly.
You leaned back exaggeratedly.
âThank you, Dad. Very insightful.â
Andrea burst out laughing, almost spilling her drink. His mouth twitched, the closest thing he ever gave to a grin. âIâm just stating facts.â
That was the thing about your parents. They werenât the type to scream or make a big deal out of things. They didnât get starstruck. Theyâd been to big events, met impressive people.
But they were here because they cared. Because Benito mattered to you and that meant he mattered to them too.
Andrea pulled out her phone, not paying much attention to the game, it was already second quarter and Benito would come out soon.
âIâm just saying,â she muttered, âmy sister dating THE Conejo Malo is still the craziest sentence Iâve ever lived through.â
You rolled your eyes at her statement. âOh my God, can you not? You act like I planned this.â
She grinned, not even looking up. âDid you not?â
âQuit.â you laughed. âI did not sit down one day and go, âHmm⊠I think Iâll date a global superstar for fun.ââ Your mom laughed quietly, the sound soft and genuine.
You nodded immediately, because that part was true in the simplest way. âHe is. Like, annoyingly kind. Itâs almost irritating.â You cross your arms holding in a laugh.
Andrea blinked, finally looking up. âGirl, what?âYou shrugged, smiling.
âIâm serious. He holds doors, he says please, he thanks waiters. Like⊠who does he think he is?â (No cause he seems like such a gentleman actuallyâŠ)
Your momâs smile widened. âA good man.â Your dad nodded once. âHeâs respectful. And by the looks of it he works hard.â
You looked over at your dad nodding as your smile grew widerâI know I know, Iâm beyond blessed.â
Andrea blinked. âOkay wait⊠are we doing the parent approval thing right now?â Your dad glanced over, amused despite himself. âDonât push it.â
You gasped dramatically, hand to your chest.
âDonât push it? Dad, he literally called you sir the first time he met you. He was terrified.â Andrea cackled. âHe really was.â
âHe wanted you both to like him.â You smiled, warmth spreading through your chest, because you remembered that too. The way Benito had tried so hard, not with flashy gestures but with sincerity.
They liked a lot... Not because he was famous but because he was him
Around you the game surged on crowds rising, music blasting between plays and the stadium alive with motion. But underneath it all you felt the countdown ticking closer.
Once the second quarter ended the stadium shifted. Not in a chaotic way more like a collective inhale. The producers rolled out all the props and escorted the dancers onto the field
Andrea leaned back in her seat calmer now, her phone resting in her lap. âHere we go!!â She squealed excitedly.
You exhaled, lips curling slightly before your momâs hand found yours squeezing once.
âHeâs going to do amazing,â she said gently. âEven if itâs a stadium full of people.â Your dad nodded, eyes steady on the field. âHeâs ready. He wouldnât be here if he wasnât.â
You glanced at them, amused. âYou two are being very⊠composed.â Andrea gave you a look. âWe know heâs good. This is justâŠa bigger stage.â Your mom nodded and smiled softly.
The screens flickered as the Apple Music logo showed onto the large screens. Stage pieces moved into place with precision. The stadium didnât seem to excited for the performance but you were and thatâs all that mattered.
The roar was instant as he stated the show off with Titi Me Prefunto.
Benito appeared on the screens like he belonged there completely, moving with that effortless confidence that always made it look easy. The performance swept through the stadium in flashes. music and energy from some people in the stands
Your momâs expression softened. âHe looks happy,â she whispered. Your dadâs gaze stayed fixed, calm but impressed in the way he didnât need to announce.
Andrea nodded once. âHell yeah. Heâs locked in.â
It didnât last long. It wasnât drawn out. It was sharp and powerful but over before you could fully process it.
Flags from every Latin American country were being waved down the field with Benito leading the way. you just stood there, heart full while watching him completely in his element.
before you could even settle back into your seat, a staff member appeared at the end of your row.
âY/N?â You looked up.
âMr. MartĂnez asked for you and your family. If youâll come with me.â
Your mom adjusted her coat while Andrea fell into step beside you, a lot quieter and more serious now, like she understood this wasnât a moment for chaos and jokes.
The hallways beneath the stadium were calmer and insulated from the noise above. Footsteps echoed softly as security nodded while you and your family passed.
Finally, you stopped outside a guarded door. The producer knocked before the door swung open.
Warm light spilled out and inside was a private room, a few people moving around quietly with headsets and clipboards.
And then Benito turned. His hair was slightly messy, face still glowing with adrenaline as his eyes immediately finding yours.
Everything in him softened.
âHola hermosaâ he breathed, his voice low
You crossed the room without thinking and he met you halfway, arms wrapping around you before pressing a long kiss to your lips.
âYou were amazing,â you murmured pulling away
He let out a quiet laugh, almost disbelieving. âI donât even know what just happened.â You pulled back just enough to look at him.
âYou did it. You were incredible.â Your mom stepped forward, warm and steady.
âFelicitationes, Benito.â He nodded respectfully. âThank you, señora.â
âCongratulations; Benito.â
Your dad offered his hand. âMuy buen trabajo muchacho.â Benito shook it, his expression sincere.
âYou did a great job kidâ
âMucha gracias señor, el apoyo de ustedes significa mucho para mi.â He stepped back and wrapped his arm around you.
âThank you sir, your support means so much to me.â
âNo really you did great, Y/n over here was totally gawking the whole timeâ Andrea joked as she playfully nudged your moms shoulder.
Your mom glanced at you, then back at him. âWeâll let you breathe. We should get back before we miss the rest of the game. Amonos andrea.â
Your dad nodded before teasingly pulling your sister to his side âWeâll be upstairs.â Andrea gave you a small look before walking out with your parents.
Then they were gone and escorted back toward the stands. The room felt quieter the second the door closed. He exhaled, shoulders dropping for the first time all night. âI was holding my breath.â he admitted.
You tilted your head. âAmorrr.â He laughed softly.
âNo, Iâm serious. Yo estaba bien right before I went out. And then it hit me.â
You reached up, smoothing your hand over his cheek, grounding him. âYou were completely in it.â
He nodded, eyes steady. âI didnât want to miss a second. I wanted to be present.â For a second the noise of the stadium above felt far away.
âMe hizo feliz saber que tĂș y tu familia estaban aquĂ⊠pero aĂșn mĂĄs feliz estar contigo ahora.â
âIt made me happy knowing you and your family were here⊠but even happier to be with you now.â
You smiled, thumb brushing his jaw. âIâm always going to be here.â His forehead tipped gently toward yours, intimate and careful.
âI kept thinking about after,â he admitted. âAbout getting to come back and find you.â
A voice called his name from across the room. someone from the production team reminding him of the next steps. Benito sighed reluctantly but his arms stayed wrapped around you.
âTengo que ir mami,â he murmured while pressing soft kisses to your lips. âThen Iâm coming with you.â His eyes flickered with soft relief
âTas segura nena?â You smiled. âYeah. Iâm not leaving your side tonight.â
He squeezed your hand once. âEstĂĄ bien preciosa,â he said with a small grin.
âPor quĂ© hablar con tus padres todavĂa me pone nervioso..? not to mention your sisterâŠâ he let out a an exaggerated exhale.
âWhy does talking to your parents still make me nervousâ
You laughed softly. âYouâll get used to itâŠeventually.â
He shook his head while chuckling. âSi si, âeventually.â ahĂ me tienes.â
