[ emily bader, cis woman, she/her ] — spotted in the streets of brooklyn, it’s CECILIA MASON. they have lived in the city for ALL HER LIFE, working as a SKATING INSTRUCTOR/OLYMPIC MEDALIST. the 28 year old will probably be seen around WILLIAMSBURG a lot, seeing as that’s where they live. people say they can be a bit COMPETITIVE and DESPONDENT, but friends know them to be DETERMINED and GENEROUS. you know for sure you’ve found them when you’ve come across GLITTERING BODICES PACKED INTO A TRUNK, A PLANNER SCRIBBLED ALL OVER, BRAIDS COMING LOOSE. welcome to brooklyn, it’s been waiting for you!
name: cecilia mason
nickname: cece
age & birthdate: 28, tba
gender & pronouns: cis woman; she/her
sexuality: biromantic, bisexual
hometown: park slope, brooklyn, new york
current residency: williamsburg, brooklyn, new york (shared apartment with elliot mason)
languages: english, asl, spanish, enough french to get by
education: sports medicine bachelor from nyu
occupation: olympic medalist for pair figure skating skating instructor
the youngest of the mason lot, cecilia was always eager for love and attention. with so many siblings, she struggled with sharing at first, until through ballet classes, she learned of ice skating. it became young cecilia's obsession, with a leisured activity soon turning into competitions. love and attention, then, became regular - - not only from her parents and siblings, but from the audience and the judges.
she would go on to compete professionally, sweeping through regionals to nationals to the olympics. she gained bronze in 2018, and silver in 2022. the world of competition was supposed to be draining, but cecilia found herself thriving in it, wanting for more everytime. in between games, she did go to nyu and went into her elder siblings' route of something something medical, though even as she went through the motions, she knew she didn't particularly care for it more than she did skating.
on the way to qualify for 2026, pressure is high. she'd pour more blood than sweat after the us championship in january (whose win she went viral for - not for the first time - with her routine), when pushing too hard got her a messed up knee and a concussion after a fall. not being able to skate is by far the worst thing she has ever had to do, but PT needs to be slow and sure if she ever wants to get back out there - - which she does, but can she? either way, unable to cope being away from the rinks for too long, she has recently taken a position as coach/instructor to pass the time and keep her sharp.
personality wise, she's very centered, very focused - which ends up making her leave everything else but the professional as things of importance. she's trying to pick this up now, getting back to friends and family, but besides she's still struggling with being off the ice, being behind, and she began to make riskier choices than she, an usual goody two shoes, would do.

"Don't tempt me with a good time." Mila pointed at the other with a playful warning in her eyes. At the mention of her projects, her smile doubled over. "I'm working on 'Green is the new Red' as my column for the holiday issue. Besides that, I have a couple people I'm costuming for Jingle Ball." She shrugged as if it weren't that serious. "How's this season been for you? Rather busy or not so much?" Though they were close, Mila couldn't pinpoint a single thing about ice skating. The mention of a broken back had the brunette burst out into laughter. "No, no. He said I helped his back, actually." She was grinning ear-to-ear. "I kinda brought some down. But we can look at what we have and go from there?" Mila opens one of the boxes of ornaments. "Now, since it's a white light tree. Should we just put up white, green, red, silver and gold baubles?"
"what is that, something related to elphaba?" cecilia guesses it could make for a trendy article, between the success of wicked and christmas around the corner. eyes widen slightly at the other note, though. "no way, seriously? that's huge! your fits will be shown to all of the world and envied by half of it!" sure, cecilia does something big for a living, but still, getting such a major gig feels like it deserves some excited congratulations. "not that busy. or not as much as i would rather it to be, i guess. but for the first time in what... twenty years? i actually get to see the tree lightings around brooklyn, so that's gotta be a major plus, right?" cecilia tries not to let defeatism flood her voice as she speaks, adding a shrug to show just how nonchalant she is that she isn't abroad right now for the grand pix and other national competitions.
cecilia shakes her head at the laughter the other lets out. "that's gotta be elderly abuse, c'mon." another shake of the head, and a tsk, though cecilia is bad at keeping the poker face before she, too, is exploding in giggles. she goes towards the ornaments' boxes, looking through the baubles and, then, picking up the ones whose colors are mentioned by the house owner. "seems like a plan. they should twinkle prettily like that. here, put in the first one. for luck."
he rolls his eyes at the comment, but that doesn't stop the laugh from bubbling out. "I sure was, and not gonna lie, that was hard work. my ankles hurt..." her mention of their last dance cuts his thoughts. the memory of a broken shirt, a sweaty night club in Tokyo, and multiple missed calls from his PR gal. it does put a smile on his face, holding her gaze for a moment before looking back to the rink.
"you're right, you did. if I had known you were gonna be here I would've waited. would've grabbed you one of those skate buddies so your geriatric knee wouldn't be mad." he jokes, nudging her leg with his own knee.
"see? and you didn't even have to do a lutz. i've told you before, skating is way harder than whatever you do." she's teasing, though. attention parts from his gaze (she's totally not flushing at the recognition from his part) to glance at his feet; within a moment she's bringing his feet up to her lap, untiying his shoes to pull them out. "you haven't even bled, that's good." an offensive gasp slips from between her lips at his words, and she pushes his feet off her legs, hoping that would also take his balance. "skate buddy? geriatric knee? fuck you!" but the pout she's holding on is not going to last long, is it? it hardly ever does when he's around. "this makes me glad you're just passing through new york, so i don't have to deal with your annoying ass for longer."
A simple nod before looking down looked down at his neck with slight confusion, "Oh yeah but you know worth the risk. "He jokes as he puts the ribbon down on the pile of branches that is slowly taking shape. "I have the perfect plant for your very little effort to keep it alive till after the holidays." he reached over and grabbed a plotted poinsettia "tada" his smile bright as he looked at her. "Oh that's easy boil to get out the bugs then wax and oils and you got a nice little holiday decoration." Another twist in the small place and plate of the pinecones is on the table "How long did the last one hang on for?"
"is it, though?" she asks, eyebrows raised; there is some amusement on the high tone of the question, though. "oh, goodie!" cecilia exclaims, watching him carefully as he goes through the plant selection and picks a beautiful mess of red flowers and green leaves. "very seasonal. what is its name?" cecilia supposes she should have googled more about them, but although her desire to keep something alive (other than sawyer, but that is greatly due to her brother's amazingness at fatherhood) has grown lately, she has totally forgotten to look for it. "and what do i do to keep it alive?" nose scrunches a little. "bugs? and, um, a month? less than? i'm a bad plant mom, aren't i?"
"We just had some stressful stuff come through the ER-" Elliot replied with a shrug of his shoulders. It was just the reality of his line of work and as much as he loved helping people, there were just some days that was stressful and hard, today being one of them. An amused sound leaving from between his lips as he watched his sister's hands. "One might be pushing it, at least wait until she's two before you drag her out on the ice." And really, if it was something Cecilia wanted to do, get Sawyer into ice skating as she got older, Elliot wouldn't mind one bit. "Cece, she's only six months old, we have quite a bit of time before she's walking. Thank goodness for that." Not quite ready to have her walking and getting into everything, very much so still enjoying her being tiny. "It'll give you plenty of time to make sure everything is baby proof." He teased Cecilia, despite the reasoning behind it, Elliot truly did love having his sister live with him and Sawyer. Nudging her in the shoulder with his own before he nodded towards the ice rink. "You thinking of going out there for a little skate?" His eyebrows raised in question.
she nods in understanding; although she had opted by sports medicine in college, she had never intended to follow through with it as a career, so she can only depend on the horror stories her siblings tell her, when they do. if elliot doesn't want to tell, she won't push it, but will try to make it better somehow. it's done now, at least, she signs. when is your next shift? eyes roll playfully at the boundaries set in sawyer's sake. "boring", cecilia tells him, knowing he can read her lips as she does so, before she sticks her tongue out. she goes back to signing right away, though. i suppose she does have to start crawling first, but it's a jump into then. when will that happen, anyways? she figures he must know, since he's the one with parenting books (and bones). ooof, she exhales, sliding her hands inside her pockets as she thinks of all the work of baby proofing. at least it'd be something to distract her, she supposes. she shrugs her shoulders next. not today. i mean i guess can since i've been cleared to light activity, but i haven't brought my skates.

location: park slope tree lighting
"Is anywhere around here doing hot chocolate tonight? I could murder a cup..." Having been stood by the tree for the last hour, Amber was beginning to lose the feeling in her fingers and her toes and could seriously use a pick me up. Hot chocolate seemed like the perfect thing for that tonight considering the circumstances. She was debating a walk around the streets to check out people lights once she had some, too, seriously trying to inject some Christmas spirit into her veins.
although cecilia has turned to call williamsburg home for the past months, she did not stray often from park slope, between her parents' and siblings' houses so it is no surprise that she has decided to come around for the tree lighting. with a cup of buttersquatch soup nestled between her palms, she tried to stay away from the crowd for now, sipping quietly on her meal until she hears someone speaking up. "hot chocolate would be a good choice right now," she has more of a savory tooth - if that's a thing - but she couldn't deny that the option now seems tempting. "i only saw a cart nearby selling soup and noodles, but i'm sure there's a good headed businessperson that won't miss the chance of selling some hot chocolate too."
Unfortunately there wasn't really anyone that he could invite to skate with, maybe Claire but that didn't seem like an activity that either of them would enjoy together and there was also the fact that he didn't want to make a fool of himself." One day maybe."
" Ah, so you are teacher? I would guess something to do with skating?" Henry asks, taking a quick glance at her attire." I would have to disagree, you are perfectly dressed for the occasion."
she nods, the excitement of being a part of young skaters' lives is something that is still to leave her - and hopefully it never would. "skating coach, teacher, is all the same when you're that young." another nod comes in acknowledgement of his words, the smile that blooms in her lips growing. "thank you. i know a thing or two about the cold. more than you, if i can be presumptious. does putting more layers make you less stylish? that it seems you would know."
the eldest raises her claws — no other way to refer to how long the nails she's just added and is in the process of getting done are — to the light, half-admiring, half-horrified. small things, like getting her nails so long and sharp, are but a silly novelty; not the first and certainly not the last. "what color are you getting?" cecilia asks, looking from her nails to the woman's next to her. "and have you decided where are we going tonight?"
who: austin + cecilia (@4ftermidnights)
where: the promenade
his agent had set up this photoshoot months ago, but probably hadn't accounted for the snow and -12 wind chill. of course, they were all wearing branded winter clothing, but the starter jacket with the giants logo splashed on the front gave little warmth in the chilly air. austin was facing away from the breeze with his hands shoved into his pockets. thankfully, the photographer had at least given them all hand warmers which austin was grateful for as he'd forgotten his gloves in his actual winter jacket. he wore a nike branded knit cap that at least kept his ears from getting frostbite. he really needed some chapstick, though.
"alright, one more shot everyone and...there!" the photographer and their mutual agent thanked them all and the small group of athletes began to disperse, austin muttering a "thank god, i can't feel my-" but he cleared his throat and let the sentence trail off as he glanced to the side to see a familiar face. he offered a crooked smile towards cecilia and braved taking his hand out of his pocket to point over his shoulder at a cart not far away. "you wanna grab a hot chocolate or something?" he asked, already backwards-walking that way. "i got a favor to ask and i find most people are more likely to say yes to stuff if you give them chocolate."
she's thought it before, but the cold and cecilia go way back, in a relationship she delights at. yet, being in this photoshoot feels...odd. she should be amused at the attention, at the awkward poses she has to strike with semi-strangers (yet awfully famous people), at the fairly good outfits they'll get out of this, but she's itching, unable not to feel out of place, as if the twenty years she's given to sports is nothing because she's been out of it for six months (she can already hear some sort of scolding for even thinking that; she'd grimace if kacey, kai or sasha were around).
instead, she's met with the footballer. she knows him because... who doesn't? cecilia perks up at the mention of chocolate, not helping but to notice how pink he has become in the half an hour they've been around. that is amusing at least. eyebrows raise as she accompanies him closely, stuffing her bare hands into her coat. "i'm not that condicioned to say no as people may say, y'know. but only fools deny the offer of hot chocolate — and it seems like you can use something to warm you up." cecilia quips, lips trembling with the effort not to smile. "is it off-season yet?"

"Oh my goodness Ce you have to come and see this it is the cutest thing I've ever seen." Okay, maybe that was an over exaggeration but markets always got Chistina overexcited and walking through onewith her daughter only added to that. Still, the decorated ornaments she was pointing to were very sweet.
head follows the direction of the matriarch's voice at once, pulling her away from a selection of sparkly notebooks to that of baubles and christmas tree dolls instead. "oh, they are adorable. isn't it time to renovate the ones from the house, mom?" the tree at the mason home has already been decorated but it's never too late to make new additions. "the ones we made when we were six may just be a bit too shabby by now."

"Alright, you got this Cee..." he said, clicking the record button on his phone. Nothing was worse than falling into a rut as an athlete after an injury. Overcoming the mental block was essential to conquer the fear of getting hurt again. Kai had his fair share of surfing injuries, including a broken collarbone, a dislocated shoulder, stings from jellyfish, and attacks from sea urchin spines. He was grateful to have a great support team that always encouraged him to get back on the board; he knew he wouldn’t be as successful without them. He wanted to be there for Cecelia and hoped she wouldn’t get upset with him for pushing her a little. "Let's take it for another loop!"
perhaps it was reckless, perhaps it was genius, but she had been cleared to get back in the ice — slowly, without glorious jumps nor any other gimmicks that could cause her to fall on her head again. she warms up by spinning a couple of times, feeling the cold air biting at her cheeks, before running a couple of laps. the exercise is repeated a few times at the other's urging, an attempt from her part to direct the view of it towards the camera, but maybe she's that rusty with being watched, because she's just sure she's doing it wrong. "did you get it, coach hayes?" cecilia asks back, sliding across the ice to approach him. "you know i still don't know how to run all these editing apps."
Matilda got the flour out the cupboard, peering into the bag to see if they had enough for the whole quiche but it wasn’t really easy to tell. The idea of just winging it made get break out in a cold sweat, so much so she’d grabbed her jacket to throw on in order to go get more from the store down the street just to be sure, when there was a knock at the door. Cece was already here, shit she’d left it too late. The sisters had been cooking together for years at this point, both for their different reasons - Matilda found it meditative, Cecelia was healing her relationship with food, but either way it was always a perfect way for them to bond. Irish twins and with older siblings who were actual twins, you’d be forgiven for assuming the two girls were. Especially when they were stood next to each other, the similarities became more obvious. Trying not too look too panicked as she opened the door, Matilda gestured to her jacket. “I wasn’t sure if we had enough flour for the crust…I was going to run out and get some more so we didn’t get caught out.” And her anxiety didn’t spiral to boot.
for once, both sawyer and cecilia had slept through the night and, despite her early class at five and thirty, she was still feeling refreshed, enough to not skip on the plans with matilda — not that she had even thought of doing that. the time they spent together was too precious for cecilia to forgo it most times, especially now, with her schedule too wide open (she tries not to think that this is no excuse for her to skimp on her planned calories meals because there is no point when she's already missing out on the grand pix this weekend). she's already about to invite herself in when chocolate eyes take note of the jacket — in a few minutes, her sister may as well be losing it entirely. hand stills at her own jacket. "are we still making tarts?" cecilia asks, giving a peek inside for a moment. they usually go through a book or some videos online at each time they cook together. "we could make sweet tarts too, so we will probably need oranges or limes." hands goes towards her sister's own jacket, zipping it up. "let's make a list." voice is almost exhilirated at the prospect of written down organization — one of cecilia's favorite things to do.
but on point for everything else, that earns a smile from the habitual frown that was so permanent on his features." I would have to agree." Henry breaks his attention from the rink to the food salesmen not having noticed it before." Maybe later." He hadn't been planning on staying long, the professor had just gotten distracted and wandered closer.
He glances towards her, shaking his head." No, I just-" He shrugs his shoulders gaze now back on those skating. " Remembered something, they do look happy do they not?" Henry asks before adding." Do you have someone out there?"
cecilia does understand the speechlessness, though, and she offers him an understanding nod, urging him to continue. "it's a very fun activity. even if you fall, it's a memory to cherish. especially if you do it with someone else." she notes, before hazel eyes find the ice again. "a few. those three," she points at a group of eight year olds gliding arond each other by the other side of the rink. "are a few of my students. they're the reason i'm around, actually. i'm like you today, no skating. though i'm worse dressed, of course."
There was a humbled smile that overtook Mila's features as she brushed off the compliment, "That was nothing. Anything for you - you know that." She mentioned, a friendly softness made her smile grow small. At the mention of Cecelia being a pro, the brunette nodded, "I don't doubt that. You should be topping Buddy the Elf at being the best decorator this point." She snickered to herself, but really she was hopeful. With her roommates falling behind in the realm of being festive, she felt the need to rush in order to keep up with everyone else. Cecelia's decorating skills would help lessen the burden on Mila who would be working o the apartment seemingly alone this year. "I know - I totally meant to get the tree after Thanksgiving, but with work, it's been a hassle. And, you see me - I'm a twig. I needed to bother a poor old dude to help me get the tree up the stairs the other day."
"get me something green and a little cap." she shrugs dramatically, though she does not admit that she does have something inside of one of her competition trunkets that are very reminiscent of buddy the elf. "have things been busy, then? anything fun you're working on?" camila's job could be rather fascinating; cecilia enjoyed writing on her planner, but nothing was quite on par to what was actually published on mila's work. "you didn't go breaking anyone's back, did you? you could have called, i would have done it without any injuries." probably. "well, at least it is here now. did you also have someone getting the decorations boxes? we will need quite a bit to fill out this baby girl."

the gentle smile is replaced with a shit-eating grin, shrugging and plopping down next to her. "for you?" a faux scoff. "i got time." he finishes with a lazy shrug. and even if he didn't he'd make time. it had become a habit in their timeline of... whatever it is they do. whether rearranging his interviews to cheer her on, getting on a different bus, or forgoing other activities so they can have those final five minutes together, it just seemed natural. "lucky me you didn't watch me eat shit earlier then, shame for you, truly." he notes, tucking his hands away into his pockets.
"you've got time for me? lucky me," she repeats his own words in a mockery of his deeper tone, now letting a grin of her own cover her lips — for a moment only. she raises her eyebrows, refusing the urge to grab at his arm, and instead giving his forearm a nudge. "you were skating just now? and i missed it? that's so shitty. you owe me a medley, at the very least. i danced when you asked last time." considering it's been over two years now, perhaps she should have played as if she's all forgotten about going clubbing together, but cecilia never knows how good she is at playing coy, especially with him.
