"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another" Proverbs 27:17 ESV I must admit that I too start believing my own hype. As people continue to give you compliments, given enough accolades even the most humblest person (except for Jesus) will start to believe the hype. How do we know which is the truth and which is just smoke? Find people who aren't afraid to tell you the truth even though it might hurt their feelings. Because feelings may be hurt, friendships could be strained, the person hearing the truth needs to remember that the person telling them this isn't trying to hurt you, but trying to help you. I sometimes have a hard time hearing those truths, and admittedly I am somewhat offended. But after thinking about it, I start to realize that the person telling me this hard truth just wants nothing but the best for me. Sharing with me their experiences and wisdom, to avoid land mines that they have experienced. And give me the best possible outcome. I forget that I don't know everything, and I am not always the best at everything. The sharpening of iron against iron is a difficult process, it removes through a painful process the imperfections, its an arduous process, but the result is a finely sharpened knife, perfected through difficulties. The perfect knife comes through. The question is, are you strong enough? And is your friend strong enough to tell you? So if you are blessed enough to have friends that isn't afraid to hurt your feelings because they value YOU more than anything else. Stop being butt hurt, and thank that friend.

<p>As I started 413Group, I knew that I would not have a lot of financial resources to do all the things I want to do. Which many people starting a small business is struggling with. But there was two great resources that I had unlimited quantity of. First, God is my ultimate resources. His grace and blessings have no bounds, as long as I am focused on GOD’s mission then He will continue to bless me. Second great resources is the ability to do things myself. </p> <p>Doing things myself, does not mean I know everything about everything. But I was humble enough to say I don’t know somethings, and I was willing to learn them. I have been blessed with a great mentor aka my Mom. Being an entrepreneur herself, she has given me great advice, and like it or not. She has been grooming me for something like this my whole life. (Thanks Mom). I also have found great people who choose to mentor me because they are just awesome people. </p> <p>So I listened, I learned and I did it myself. I learned how to do photography so I can use them to create promotions. Then I learned how to use Adobe Creative Suite so I can capitalize on them. Now I am not the best graphic designer, but I can get by. As a result, I can speak Graphic Designer. You might not think that’s a big deal, asks a graphic designer if you can convert a .jpg to a vector file. I also had to learn how to make business proposals and understand the fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization, social media, and analytics. All with a bachelors degree in Religion, although is am going to grad school, we call it something different. We call it seminary school. </p> <p>To keep cost down in running your business learn as much as you can to do it yourself. And when business starts to pick up and you can now hire someone to the task for you, you can keep an eye on what they are doing and making sure that its done to your specification. </p> <p>In conclusion, when you are starting a new business, learn as much as you can try to do things yourself instead of paying for someone to do it for you. That way you save money, and when its time to hire someone, well at least you have a basic understanding.</p>

If hardship is consistent in business then the solution is to be consistently be harder, learn, grow and be stronger.

How does this relate to your marketing campaign? Well I say this because the best marketing campaign or the best way to promote yourself has always been word of mouth. The value of a referral from a student is invaluable.  When one student tells another person about their school and and how their instructor who creates this wonderful atmosphere, will generate more students. I estimate that 80% of my students are from referrals from either the student themselves or their parents.  If you really want to create a lasting campaign that you can just do on your own without really spending a lot of money then my best advice for you is be the type of person that they want  your students want to be brag about.

It’s okay to be knock down, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and then go back in there.

Many years ago I attended Cypress College which was an amazing experience. I learned not necessarily from the professors or the books but at the theater department. I learned how to put together a show from the production aspect how much work that is required to go through it, it requires teamwork. I know that as an actor we are the one that gets most of the credit. We are the one that are on the spotlight and we are the ones that are singing the song and doing the dance. And at the end of the show, we are the ones that are applauded. Every real actor knows that nothing can happen without the production team backing you up. There's so much more going on behind the stage then they are on it. The realization on how much work the production team have to go through and how much planning? I am so grateful that working in the theater department all the years taught me how to run an event. Every production starts with planning, you have to be able to know what you're trying to achieve all of that requires planning. That's the same thing that I used to apply towards my marketing business. I have done so much events for my company already and for my clients events that I have someone become an expert on this matter. And if there is one thing that I can say that sums up my planning philosophy is what I learned at Cypress College. There was this stapled at the back of the workshop where they make all the set and props. It says, "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." I've been to so many events where the most basic things haven't been taken care of. I remembered a certain stick fighting tournament where I offered the tournament host my help in planning it. And fortunately enough there was a checklist that we could've gone through. But that person was so sure of himself that he did not need my help. One week before the tournament there was one thing that was missing from the preparation of the tournament. Maybe it wasn't important, but I think for stick fighting tournament you're going to need sticks right? No not only did we have to order steak, not only did we have to pay for bulky items shipping we also had to have it shipped overnight. Which as many of you who might've shipped anything bulky in the past knows that expensive. But all of this could've been prevented should proper planning to have taken place. It is not just in tournaments, I have been at my church for a few years now and every year they keep mentioning that the biggest financial draw for the church is during the church anniversary. And every year they wait to the last minute to start planning it instead of picking a few months to plan it right. I'm telling you this now if you have any event whether small or big win a complicated or simple it all requires planning. And remember you have all the time in the world the days before the event not the day of. So my friends if you're thinking about putting together an event or tournament or whatever. Please take my advice and plan for it at least six months in advance. And then once you get really good at it then if any emergency event comes your way you already know what you need to do.
