βOne-horned beast depicted in ceramic model from Northern Wei period (386β534)β
This pottery sculpture, displayed in the Shaanxi Museum in Xiβan, China, potentially depicts a Xiezhi (η¬θ±Έ). Often compared to the Unicorn, the Xiezhi is a creature in Chinese mythology and folklore that is shown the have to body of a goat, ox or sheep, with a single horn that protrudes from its head. It is said to have the ability to distinguish morally right from wrong, often punishing those it deems as guilty with its horn.
