There’s a familiar air about this man. 

Kaito has noticed him on the off chance once or twice now, sticking his nose around the city in search of information; they seem to be like-minded in where to ask, but he seemed to be ahead of the game in comparison to Kaito, who has mostly held himself back and watched the crowd from afar, getting information by listening in rather than asking.

There’s something in the way this particular individual carries himself, though, that catches Kaito’s attention. Such is the nature of familiarity, he supposes, and maybe he’s just latching onto the little remnants of what reminds him of home. He’s about his age, he thinks  — in the very least, he’s young — and displays a curiosity prevalent among individuals he spends a little too much time getting on the bad sides of.

That is to say... if he’s not a detective, he damn well presents like one. 

If anything, he might be a good place to start by way of gathering information about this place; there’s a chance he’s picked up things that Kaito hasn’t. Maybe he can bug him a little in the process. Who knows.

         He finds it strange that, after all’s said and done, this even stranger random decides to stick around. Joshua’s made it clear he’s not offering a reward for the assistance, and he continues the posture, hands stuffed snuggly into his pockets.

If he’s forced to walk for however long this ailment lasts, he sure as hell won’t look happy doing it. He’ll have to test out his levitation again sometime later when he’s finally out of the prying city eyes. 

“Oh, no, this is a favorite passtime of mine, actually. I’ve been waiting to fall into the concrete aaall day.” Though he doesn’t actually roll his eyes, the intention is still there.

“… Did you want something, or do you have a reason for standing there yet?”

Alright, this kid is annoying.

In any general, normal circumstance, Kaito would have been on his merry way by now, but something about the tone used by the strange kid who just very nearly fell on him sets off some sense of frustration in him. Perhaps it’s the familiarity in how nonchalantly he spouts his sarcasm — he does the same on the daily, but somehow, seeing his own actions under someone else’s rule grinds his gears just a bit. ( The hypocrisy of the matter would be worth addressing if he actually cared. )

And it isn’t like he’s over what he just witnessed, either. He really wants to dismiss the abnormalities brought about by the residents of his already abnormal enough city, but having spent his whole life denouncing magic and its plausibility... 

Well, he can mull on that later.

“ — Is this normal?”

The question is innocent, offhand, and though tinged with a strange sense of apprehension if you dug deep enough, the boy it comes from gives no sign of care. He appears to be displaying genuine curiosity — though, in a sense, it may come off a bit rude. Probably a lot more rude than intended, all things considered.

But he does feel a little off-put by the near familiar coldness of the woman’s gaze. 

There has to be a certain subtlety to sticking your nose into places it shouldn’t be, he thinks, and he’s learned as much in his years of practicing keeping up walls and putting on a mask. Something in him tells him that she sees through him, however — and while he wouldn’t be surprised ( she certainly wouldn’t be the first ) he’d rather figure out what the hell she wants before he’s wrapped up in some situation he’s keen on avoiding.

“Y’know, you and... starin’ at people like that.”

But, oh well.

The Detective Prince decided to dress up as an… actual prince before eating an ascension candy. Complete with tiny crown. This is a mistake.

“Trick or treat.” A pause. A charming smile. “Is this how commoners do this?”

“Oooh, is this Prince Charming’s first trick-or-treat?”

Having exercised a heavy amount of disbelief in regards to the candies and the effect they could have, Kaito had put on a pair of devil horns in mockery of a past classmate of his and popped a candy in his mouth as a joke— but, lo and behold, the horns currently sprouted from his head are nothing but real.

And much in the nature of the demons his classmate supposedly convened with, he’s cocky, cryptic, and... teasing this poor princely fellow he’s barely stumbled upon, tail flicking idly.

          The theatre’s promenade garners Joshua’s attention, of course. It’d be nice to perform in this city one day, buuut he’ll file his wishes for another day; it’s hard to dream with your head in the clouds when the crowd pushes you around like a stray plastic bag. Joshua grumbles, something akin to how a bother everyone is today, and wills himself into the sky just above his fellow pedestrians.

A few people look, though no one reacts. Good– Joshua wants to enjoy this tour on his own.

… But, what goes up must come down, and the surprise is clear on the Composer’s face as the world turns into a blur, and his pleasant view of a busy streetside is suddenly swapped with the cold glow of the gray skies. It takes him another moment to realize, yeah. He just fell out of the sky.

“Ugh.”

“Don’t.” There’s a hand in his face, and really, he needs the space to breathe right now, so he impatiently waves it off. Another beat passes, and after one last forlorn glare to the skies above, Joshua finally gets back to his feet and brushes himself off. Immediately, he’s focusing himself airborne once more, but… nothing happens.

It’s at this point he actually notices who that hand belongs to and makes eye contact with the other. Yet, Joshua continues his fruitless attempts again, saying nothing more as they both just stand… there in the crowd. He sighs before anything else.

“So. Today royally sucks, doesn’t it?”

Well.

Kaito’s hand hovers for a brief moment, but he makes a face and lets it fall to his side once more at the blatant refusal. He watches the stranger as he effectively curses the gods above from his spot on the ground, and sits on his own concern, fiddling with something in his pockets. He wants to ask if he’s okay, but he’s obviously in quite the mood already. ( Maybe he should walk away? He’s not sure. )

He just... awkwardly laughs, and does a little hop-step to the side to avoid some passersby who want to use the sidewalk they’re so blatantly taking up space on.

“Doesn’t it...”

He feels a bit strange, standing there, doing nothing but taking up the sidewalk. He has no reason to even be here anymore now that his help was denied. Yet, now he’s being talked to, and... something in his mind just keeps repeating that this guy literally just fell out of the sky. He just fell. Of course, there’s no way this week could get any stranger...

... But it’s bothering the hell out of him.

It makes sense, to prefer the upper levels of this ward; cleaner, more advanced, livelier — granted, the last one wasn’t really a plus, if you’d ask him, but, the point still stands. While he did have to put a bit of effort before showing up here, lest he ends up being denied from all blocks, it wasn’t much of an issue. He’d like to think he can clean up pretty well; it just requires the trip outside not to be an awfully spontaneous one, done without forethought.

Finding a quieter establishment, especially at this time of day, wasn’t easy — but not impossible. For someone who was looking to pass the day today peacefully and undisturbed (for once), it was good enough, as long as he doesn’t involve himself here or calls for conflict. Theoretically.

“Hm,” he didn’t look at the other, despite having heard them clearly. Instead, he’d tilt his glass a bit, staring at it as he’d have the drink slowly trace the brim. “I wouldn’t say strange,”

With a rather vague response, he was hoping to communicate that he wasn’t looking to discuss such now; even if the bartender isn’t actively listening in, chattering about a sketchy bar while sitting inside the very same locale … felt like a horrible idea.

Not as if Clive wasn’t expecting the nosy fellow to inquire further, but.

And a fool Clive would have been to think that Kaito would give up that easily.

It almost seems like he’s going to back off in the way he moves to shift away, turning his body in the direction of where the bartender had dipped off to. His mouth forms a thin line, and he leans his head against his hand, and he watches for a moment to see if he can spot the bartender or hear his footsteps as he comes back; but it’s silent, and he’s nowhere to be seen.

He sighs, hesitates, and speaks again. 

“It’s just curious, isn’t it?”

The question starts open-ended for a reason — he’s testing to see the man’s reaction, watching his movements to see if he gives off any indication that he’s involved in the crimes Kaito’s heard rumored under the roof of this establishment. If he isn’t, he doesn’t want to drag someone down with his own nosiness.

His eyes flick back to where the bartender had walked off to, and he makes a face as he realizes it has been much too long since he disappeared. Perhaps he should be worried.
