Fight THE fears!
My friends know I am one of the many galaxy watch developers; so to say I call myself more of a designer rather than the aforementioned. I still have my day job, being a designer is more of a hobby to sharpen my creative/photoshop skills, learn marketing and entrepreneurial skills, and of course, earn extra along the way.
Fast forward to date with 5 watchfaces approved and a few pending in the pipeline, It felt good with the positive comments and 5-star ratings received, especially in this modern world where these rating matters. It also helps boost my confidence after the long creative block.
Until I received a 2.5 stars and a comment:-
āPlease make a proper AOD.ā
A simple, nonchalant or blatant or whatever you call it suggestion, order or comment.
It slowly crawled on my skin, up to my head, and then, Boom!
What the! 2.5 stars??? And asking to make a proper AOD? (Always On Display state).
It is crystal clear that I didnāt put it as a feature of my designs! All specifications are clearly spelled out on the posters and descriptions in the store! I am not using it to save battery use! This feature is useless as it is a battery killer! Cāmon dude! 2.5 stars! Most of them gave me 4, or 5, but you? Blah Blah Blahā¦
Thatās the other me talking to myself.
In my heart, I know it is my weakness. I didnāt incorporate that feature because I havenāt learned it yet. I havenāt learned it because I chose not to study it yet.
I am afraid to start with it because a quick look on it overwhelms and confuses me. I could not understand how to make it work and chose the easier way out. WALK AWAY. I can design and sell without those features.
And thereās this client who commented and gave me a 2.5, downgraded my average to a medium instead of highā¦
Still,
I have 1 unhappy customer so I have to make it work. I learned from my previous boss that 1 is too many. It may happen again. So I spend my night learning how to do it (thatās the good thing nowadays; learning materials are easily available on the internet. Itās all up to us how to utilize it) and it turned out, itās not that hard anyway. I just need to PROVIDE TIME and FOCUS.
LESSONS LEARNT:
1. Face your fears; it might not be scary after all.
2. Sometimes, we have to pause and ask ourselves before blaming the rest of the world. The problem may be you, not them.
3. Lastly, this is not mine but from the book I religiously follow āItās not weak to change and adapt. Flexibility is its own kind of strength. In fact, this flexibility combined with strength is what will make us resilient and unstoppable.
Thank you client from Germany. All future designs will have AOD.
