I've always thought the Xephos Lalna and Honeydew from Deep Space Mine are Not the Xeph Lal and Dew from Hole Diggers.

When the Dwarf Star explodes in Hole Diggers the trio are killed and subsequently respawn later and continue on in the Main Timeline.

But the reactor explosion rips a hole in the universe. The space pod that is supposed to take the Main Timeline folks in the chance there is a failure on the Dwarf Star doesn’t work and it is taken through this hole to an alternate universe (where it later lands in Jaffa Factory 2).

As well, the empty clone vessels from Hole Diggers are sucked through this hole into the same alternate universe.

These empty clone vessels subsequently become available for the souls of alternate universe versions of Xephos Lalna and Honeydew, who believe they are just continuing on (where their alt universe souls were before I haven't quite parsed out, but I'm thinking some sort of broken reality that left them wandering without vessels).

Xephos comes to first and believes he is the original and that he's brought Lalna and Honeydew back, which while this isn't necessarily correct, is accepted by all three and they continue with the plot of Deep Space Mine.

At some point, they must have decided they're tired of being on a space station and want to return to Minecraftia, so with a space pod they return.

Honeydew faffs off and does a series with Geestar (i think that's who he streamed with a couple years back).
