i kinda feel weird when people go "ohhh the atelier is a family haha!!!" because like. no? first off, family should not be treated as a necessary structure for care. second, the text itself focuses a lot on the issues of treating apprenticeships as a familial structure; coco is struggling deeply with the care she has for the members of the atelier and the atelier itself without her mother, euini riliphin and riche with abusive structures in the past, and then you have atwert and galga. i don't really know if i can any anything else without devolving into screams. anyways! not family, but care and love is real.

I be jokingly calling Qifrey and Olly the girls’ papas, but they are not. They are teachers. And every time someone is expecting them to act as parents instead I start getting a little crazy. Yes, they teach them lots of life lessons! Yes, they can be very warm and caring, sometimes more than their actual families! But they are not those girls’ real parents and shouldn’t be held accountable for every single ideology or social rule or safety precaution the girls have or haven’t learned!
