She let out a soft laugh as the witch claims to read her future â misfortune to come, allegedly. Vidya knew better than that, but there was a 50/50 chance this was just someone trying to make a few bucks making things up, anyway. She leaned forward, trying to get a better look of her alleged reading, andâ something slipped out of her pocket.
She turned her head just in time to see someone hustling off, her wallet in hand.
Treat: There's a witch hocking fortune-telling for a few bucks at a table nearby. She predicts misfortune in your future, just in time for you to feel somebody lifting your wallet or bag off of you!
Well. Her father certainly hadnât raised a pushover. Vidya slipped out of the seat and hurried after them, well trained in sneaking around. The wannabe pickpocket was fast, but Vidya managed to snag a sleeve and pull them aside, throwing them against the wall.
âHi there,â she said, with a giggle. Years of training and work for her dad (and Reardon at large) made handling these sorts of things a breeze. She gripped the front of their shirt tightly. âLook, Iâll make it simple. Give it back, and Iâll let you go.â They looked at her with a contemptuous suspicion, and rolled their shoulders as if to try and push her off. To strengthen her argument, she flicked the silver razor open and let the dull edge of it rest against their collar. They winced, and she noted the small welt its graze had left behind. âMaybe donât do anything dumb, âkay? All you have to do is hand it over, Iâm big on forgiveness!â
Their eyes flickered from hers, to the blade angled at their neck. They reached into their coat and pulled it out. She took it and slipped it back in her pocket, blade still nudging against their skin.
She smiled at them, and pressed it just a bit harder into their skin. âWasnât too hard, was it? Geez, you made me go to a lot of work here. Shouldâve just saved yourself the trouble.â She snuck a hand into their jacket and snagged the first thing her fingers hit. âCall us even now!â She said, finally releasing them. âHappy Halloween!â
When you chase them down, though, you get your wallet back, and you take an Invisibility Potion off of them as tax.
They stared at her for a moment, then bolted away. Vidya just giggled again and flicked the razor shut, tucking the bottle into her vest pocket. When she looked up, someone was staring at her. âOh!â She said. âJust getting my wallet back. The nerve of some people, huh?â
