some of yall will hate me but I dont think claudia is a perfect character either and I think that to position her as the "only good one" or the "only recounting of events we can trust" fundamentally misunderstands the story.
This conversation has been brought up a lot more now because of lestat's recounting that he never threatened claudia with SA on the train. Some people say that lestat can be going down the very common road that some abusive people do where they soften their own actions in their memory. and maybe this is true, it could be! my point is: we'll never know. however, I think some people think that claudia's victim status absolves her from having bias when that is not the case.
I never think claudia intentionally lied but she is also very traumatized and her emotional truth may not necessarily be the factual truth but that does not make it a farce. like "lying" isnt the right word. her accounts are still biased to her worldview if that makes sense?
like she GENUINELY felt threatened by lestat and when has she felt genuinely threatened before? with Bruce. in her mind these two experiences start to bleed together and affects and her recollection of it. this DOESNT mean lestat wasnt horrible and didnt threaten her at all, it means her experiences shape her lens. it means her brain processed these two experiences in the same way. because in a sense by being forced to come back home her autonomy was also being robbed from her, again.
I guess my point is that memory is the monster. we can never escape our lens and the horror of these books and this show is that we cannot separate our past experiences from our current life, the emotions and the worldview bleed through and your actions follow accordingly. the horror of the show is how life often feels like a self fulfilling prophecy because you can never fully escape from who youve been into who you are.
fascinated by the fact that the iwtv fandom isn't capable of latching on to the unreliable narrator concept of it all. they absorb the newest version of the facts they're shown through the current pov and immediately think that this most recent version must be the truth. incredible. watch them change their mind next time the pov switches again

Valuable tags from @doberbutts
drawing practice featuring an assortment of batman characters
Bunch of Lloyd and MK doodles cause I think they'd make a rlly fun duo hehe
[Batfam member finds out Tim Drake figured out Bruce Wayne was Batman because Dick Grayson Robin did a quadruple somersault]
Batfam: lol Dick only did that because he is so extra
Me [vibrating]: trapeze artists tried unsuccessfully to nail the quadruple for 70 years because the flyer picks up enough velocity on the spins that they reach 80 miles an hour and hit with so much force it can dislocate the shoulders of the person trying to catch him and rip the skin off their hands in big flaps
the flyer would hit so hard the people attempting it would box and slap their hands against wooden blocks to toughen their skin and hitting a quadruple in the air magnified the power behind tiny nine-year-old Dick’s strikes to the point where it could have probably stunned a metahuman and this was probably a large reason behind his ability to be a crimefighter at an earlier age than any other person in the DC universe and in this essay I will
How dare you leave the emoji somersaults of doom in the tags
Let young Dick somersault into his parents killers
I’m just thinking that if he did this as nightwing he would probably look like sonic when he turns into a ball
Pov: you’re fighting dick grayson
So that’s basically how it went down
I resent just how fucking accurate this shitpost is, congratulations OP, you effectively illustrated how Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection became accepted by the wider public using a FUCKING MUPPETS MEME, here is your A+, get the hell out of my office

Cass’ first kill, the one that leads her to realize what murder is and sends her in a journey to find her own way to be a hero, isn’t a virtuous person connected to our other characters. It’s a criminal, a kingpin with blood on his hands, invented only to die.
Cassandra’s first kill doesn’t draw her into the world of superheroics; it isn’t a person who impresses her with their virtue. It’s just some guy, someone Jason would probably justify killing, and the fact that it triggers her journey of self-discovery, morality, and extreme dedication to the preservation of life, says so much more about her than Faizul. Who Faizul is is inconsequential. The fact that he was probably just another replaceable asshole, a man who lived by the assassin and thus died by the assassin, is irrelevant to her. Making her first kill someone innocent or relevant to the cape and cowl crowd changes her story thematically.
From the very beginning, Cass’ motto has been “no one dies tonight.” Not because they’ve earned the right to live, not because they’re innocent, not because they will use the gift of life for good instead of evil, but because killing is fundamentally wrong. No one means no one, and that is reinforced by her developing this idea from watching the death of someone shitty.
Cass was raised to not know any other way, but she created her own path outside of murder without a role model to guide her. Cass is a character who was able to create a code of ethics from scratch, without the language or even concept of opposing murder to help her. That’s fucking incredible.
Brucie: [twirling his bangs and holding a pint glass of beer between his fingers from the base like a wine glass] ha ha, wait, no stop, you are soooo funny! Omg, thank you all so much for inviting me this time! So... okay, wait, explain the rules to me one more time?
Bruce, aside: Jim, you do realize, I'm about to brutally and viciously murder the entire GCPD bowling team, an utterly complete floor-wiping the likes of which their reputation will never recover from?
Gordon: You kidding? This betting pool is about to pay my rent for the next three years.

If you're a leftist who finds inspiration in the stories of the anarchist and communist revolutions, you also need to find wisdom in its excesses, it's cruelty and it's vulnerability to corruption. If you find pride in the history of the resistance movements against nazism, you also need to find introspection in the fact that many resistance members ended up raping the wives and abusing the youngest children of nazis the moment the power was reversed.
I don't trust people who only explore the pretty parts of leftist history. It doesn't lead to a realistic understanding of our past movements and it doesn't make us prepared to see the flawed, vulnerable and ugly in our current movements. Will you recognize and confront the rapist in your local group? How can you, if you won't even recognize and confront him across 80 years of distance?
hey everypony !! since i’m supporting the DCblackout boycott, i figured i’d make a small info post with links and summaries !!
DCblackout:
DCblackout is the second stage of the DCsowhite discussion that took place earlier this year, which pointed out that DC hasn’t publtished a solo, on-going black title in over 1200 days
DCblackout has 3 main goals: 1. establish and announce 1-3 black on-going titles (with black creative teams) that have cancellation immunity for a minimum of 2 years, 2. educate fans on how sales work so they can accurately support the titles they love, & 3. greenlight a power company book if the titles do well (which would help a fanbase grow)
the goal of DCblackout is to raise awareness of the lack of black DC stories and give fans heroes they can relate to and see themselves in.
blackgirlnerds.com
their official public statement is as follows:
bleedingcool.com
DCsowhite and why now:
DCsowhite brought attention to the fact that there has been no black on-going title in over 1200 days. the last title was ‘I Am Batman’, which ran from 2021-2023 and ended on its #18 issue.
dc heavily relies on mini-runs or one shots for black characters, and black female characters receive even less.
james portis III (aka JPenumbra) posted a piece to comicsbeat.com focusing on the issue.
comicbeats.com
this has been an issue for a long time, but it doesn’t have to continue this way !! below is a link to the DCblackout petition, and blow that are links to JPenumbra’s original piece, the DCblackout website, and blackgirlnerds.com and bleedingcool.com’s pieces (in that order).
