Ugandan Fashion Designer Gloria Wavamunno
Born in London and raised between England and Uganda, Gloria Wavamunno is a young Kampala based fashion designer. She founded her label, Gloria Wavamunno, in 2009 and created her first collection named L.O.V.E. Since then she has had several more collections including A-FREAK-A in 2010 and Not a Dream, My Soulmate in 2011. She draws inspiration from her African heritage by experimenting with the traditional Kitenge and incorporating it into modern designs.
Her internship with renowned Ugandan men’s designer, Ozwald Boateng, gave her the knowledge and skills necessary to survive in the fashion industry. Since she launched her label she has showcased her designs in prestigious fashion shows such as the AFI Africa Fashion Week 2010 and the LGN London Fashion Week.

“The effective use of information and knowledge is becoming the most critical factor for rapid economic growth and wealth creation, and for improving socio-economic well-being, and for Nigeria to be globally competitive in the 21st century, a critical factor would be our ability to harness our knowledge potential using ICT.”
ICT youth center, Kamwenge District, Uganda
With unprecedented funding going into the provision of ICT artifacts within developmental contexts, in what ways will peoples’ increased use of these artifacts, and participation in the networks that these enable, stimulate different social behaviours and expectations? In what ways might Web 2.0 (conceived both as technology and enabled behaviours) drive increasing calls for a much more plural and collaborative ‘Development 2.0’?
