Chapter 5: Everything is fine

Li Lun clamps his eyes shut, inhaling deeply before buckling his legs under him and letting himself sink to the bottom of the tub. Any tears that escape will be less obvious if his whole face is wet when he resurfaces. He takes advantage of the temporary privacy to recentre himself and claw back some composure. Reminds himself that he's free and safe; that Zhu Yan is alive and safe. Zhu Yan isn't free, obviously; but he can deal with that later. He'll figure out a way to break him out sooner or later. Everything is fine.

Zhuo Yichen puts his plan into action... to mixed results.

Chapter 7 - I'm Glad You're Here

"Um, apologies for disturbing you, Zhuo daren. But there was a messenger here from the inn. They said your guest is overstaying his welcome and they need you to go pay his tab if he's to stay another night." "What guest? Who? What inn?" Zhuo Yichen feels like he must be mishearing things. Nothing of what the kid is saying is making even the slightest bit of sense. "They said his name was Li daren? Here." The kid passes him a piece of paper with the details including an address for the inn this supposed guest is staying. "I uh, I have to go back to my post now. Pei daren has me on notice." "Alright. Thank you, I guess?"

In the final chapter of this fic, Zhuo Yichen discovers what Li Lun's been up to since leaving his room in a hurry.

You know how the scene of zhu yan absolutely smitten by zhuo yichen and giving him the pat pat when he killed every other person in that state previously?

WELL. i realise zhuo yichen when he woke up as a demon his instinct was to seize wen xiao’s neck to basically kill her and i can’t help but wonder if it is because the demon lying dormant, the bing yi blood, dislikes wen xiao for being so close to zhao yuan zhou.

Its been so long that everything is very different.

But I am back. It is nice to be home to tumblr again. I am slowly recovering from dental surgery. After nearly 20 years of corticosteroids keeping me alive, they finally killed my teeth. They just crumbled in the end. If you add steroids, Ehlers danlos syndrome and epileptic seizures shattering them on the regular, it was a miracle that they lasted nearly 40 years. In january, it became clear it was Time. so on the 21st of feb I had full upper and lower extractions and a complete denture put in. Unfortunately, there were some significant complications. it was under twilight sedation, and I kept waking up, having breathing problems, the local anaesthetic kept wearing off. My poor dental surgeon, who is also my regular dentist had to use more anaesthetic on me than he has on any individual in his entire career. Lookin at you, EDS.... *glares*... anyway, it was nasty, and cos of the crumbling and shattering when they were being removed, it was not so much an extraction as an excavation. nearly every tooth had to be cut out in some way. there are some very fine shards working their way through the gum which is an experience. So there was a monumental amount of stitches. So recovery has been slow and painful, but each day is getting better than the previous. And it will never, ever be like those first few nights ever again, so that is something. Unfortunately my concentration was utterly blitzed during this process. The first night back I watched fangs of fortune on my laptop, purely because I found the pun amusing. It made me laugh and cheered me up. but i couldnt focus on it. its taken till this week to be able to do a significant chunk of my language work without making stupid mistakes, and was able to get out a decent sketch. I'm working on a pastel portrait that got halted by this mess, so I'm hoping I can get back into that today.
