This absolutely made my day, thank you so much for taking the time to write this DSFGHJK. I honestly felt the same way while reading the first book. (You poor thing for reading the entire series!! Did the later books get better for you at all? /gen) I enjoyed it at times, but I also kept feeling disconnected from the overwhelming praise everywhere, so it’s nice hearing that it resonated.

I think part of it comes from BookTok reaching the mainstream, and many people who hadn’t read much since their pre-teen years are picking up books again. A lot of tweens are now catching up on the AO3, Wattpad, and Gacha Life phases they missed out on, so similar kinds of stories and tropes tied to very basic human inclinations (Kant’s lower needs lol) are rising in popularity again.
