Kroj from my Great-Grandparent’s Village?
Today’s research has led me closer to what my great-grandma Tesařova’s grandmothers might have worn. Kroj from the South Moravian region started to disappear earlier than other regions of Moravia—as early as the mid-nineteenth century. People from this region often did domestic work in Vienna due to its proximity and received urban hand-me-down clothing from their employers which they proudly wore home to their villages, where it soon began to replace the traditional clothing.
One of the articles I found today on the folk costume of Znojmo where my people are from broke the area down into areas which would have had similar styles of dress. The pictures in this post show kroj from two different villages within 20km of our village of Běhařovice. The article groups these two villages and my great-grandparent’s village into an area influenced by Hrotovické.
