The third day of Special Event Week and this time we will spend the day with our Sakamaki brothers from the anime/game Diabolik Lovers. Honestly, I'm really surprised by how consistent I've been with this 100-followers special. Maybe I'll do a Smut Week for 200 followers? That would be a good idea. Bit of a disappointing one. This anime started in 2009 and did not seem to reach a large audience unfortunately. Maybe it did, but this isn't something I've seen anyone talk about ever. Part of the reason might be because the world building.

Chrome Shelled Regios has a very unique fantasy world in a post-apocalyptic setting with its own politics, power balances, monsters, magic systems, and more. I really really like the world presented here, but only after I got more than halfway through the show. A huge issue this anime has is its introductions. You have absolutely no idea how this world works coming in and it doesn't explain it at all. I was constantly confused about the purpose of so many things and a good amount of it I still don't understand.

The characters don't help with this issue either. They're not even bad characters or anything, in fact, they're also fairly unique. However, there are several forced conflicts or out of character miscommunications that hurt the flow of the story. It doesn't help that the main character is the weakest in terms of characterization. (not to mention several fanservice bits that completely break the pacing of the anime)

There's even this weird TV show in the anime that is in English that occassionally breaks up the story, but originally the viewer is led to believe it's something that may have actually happened. As it turns out, no, it serves nothing to the actual plot.

This sucks since I actually like the conflicts the plot has. The overall story is very intrrguing and I wanted to see where it qould go. Unfortunately this is another one of those anime that do not complete their story. I don't know if the anime adaption caught up to the light novel or what, but Chrome Shelled Regios ends on a cliffhanger and it will likely stay that way forever. Ya hate to see it.

The animation is done by Zexcs and it's a studio I don't know much about. I knew they were a sister company to studio Feel, but that's really it. I have not seen many Zexcs anime. For the most part though, the animation is pretty nice. The action is done alright and the character animation can be neat sometimes. The animators can really pop off in some scenes, but it didnt happen much. The only other show I've seen from Zexcs recently is The Legend of the Legendary Heroes....which is also unfinished. I hope that's not a trend with that studio.
