Why the Kentico Xperience 13 Deadline Actually Matters | Zenesys
Kentico has published this without ambiguity:
January 1 β December 31, 2026: Kentico continues technical support, but only in the form of security hotfixes. No new features, no functional bug fixes, no enhancements.
From January 1, 2027: All support, maintenance, updates, and security patches stop entirely. Kentico has stated that any continued use of K13 past this point is at the customer's sole risk, with full liability for resulting damages, breaches, or losses sitting with the organization running it.
Your site won't go dark on New Year's Day. It'll keep running. What disappears is the safety net underneath it.
Why this deadline is sharper than most CMS retirements
K13 is already carrying a second, quieter EOL. Kentico Xperience 13 runs on Microsoft .NET 6, which reached its own end of support in November 2024. Unless your installation has been moved onto the Kentico 11 Refresh (which shifted to .NET 8).
Two confirmed critical vulnerabilities were disclosed in 2025 against the Staging Sync Server, both authentication bypass flaws with the highest possible severity rating, and one of them chains into remote code execution when combined with a stored XSS flaw.
Kentico's own development effort has already moved on. Active engineering investment in K13 effectively ended in 2023β2024 when Kentico shifted its roadmap to Xperience by Kentico. The 2026 "support" period is maintenance mode on a product Kentico has already stopped building for.
This isn't an upgrade, it's a rebuild. Unlike the 11-to-12 or 12-to-13 upgrades, there's no automated upgrade path from K13 to Xperience by Kentico. The platforms are architecturally different: K13 is a traditional, on-premises, monolithic system; Xperience by Kentico is cloud-native, modular, and built for hybrid headless delivery. K
What you gain by moving, beyond just staying supported
Cloud-native flexibility. Run on SaaS, PaaS, or your own infrastructure depending on your IT strategy, rather than being locked into on-premises hosting.
Hybrid headless delivery. Go headless where your architecture calls for it while keeping the editorial experience marketing teams already know.
AIRA, Kentico's built-in AI agent. Embedded directly in the back office, AIRA understands your content structure and customer data to help with content creation, campaign planning, and reporting without leaving the platform.
Monthly refreshes instead of major version jumps. Xperience by Kentico ships on a rolling release cycle, which means you're not staring down another cliff-edge deadline like this one in a few years.
Compliance footing. For regulated sectors especially, finance, healthcare, government, running unsupported software isn't just a security question, it can be a direct compliance gap.
The realistic planning window
Migrations of this scope typically run 6 to 12 months when scoped and executed properly:
discovery and audit, content and architecture mapping, rebuild, testing, phased go-live. Starting that process in the final quarter of 2026 means compressing a year of work into a few months, under a hard deadline, with less room to catch problems before they're live.
Organizations that started planning in 2025 or early 2026 are the ones that get to do this calmly instead of in a scramble.
We're a Kentico Gold Partner with 16+ years in CMS development and 200+ delivered projects. Upgrades are a large part of that work, not a side offering, which means we've already hit most of the version-specific gotchas before your project runs into them.
