Your "donor not dad" vs "they only had me for spare parts" gifset got me thinking Buck feels like he was never supposed to be anyone's kid and now he's not supposed to be anyone's dad and I'm UNWELL.
nooo same tbh đŤ like the âcursedâ episode coming up really has me in a deep spiral about it currently but ever since buck begins iâve kind of wondered if buck does feel cursed because of how he was brought into the world, and as if no matter how hard he tries heâll never be able to mean more to others or be more than what his parents had intended him to be ??
đđť + Over your shoulder Give me something new to call my lawyer about. And congrats friend <33
zain i love you a lot and am eagerly awaiting to be Served đĽ°đĽ°đĽ°
The way you said "I love you" - over your shoulder
âWhere did you see him last?â
He feels sweat drip down his back and soot shift in his hair, a pressure on his finger where Hen must have placed the pulse ox. Thereâs sound and smoke and fire all around him, an active blaze that doesnât feel like itâs gotten any smaller in the two hours that theyâve been there.
But none of that matters because Buck went into that fire with Eddie and came out alone, and the world hasnât moved an inch since.
A thousand thought fly through his head in the stillness â why didnât I follow him, why did I let him out of my sight, why did we only get our shit together last week instead of last month or last year, why why whyâ
âBuck.â Bobby clamps a hand on his shoulder and shakes, just a little. Buck comes back to Earth but itâs still not moving. âWhere did you and Eddie split up?â
He swallows a sob. âWeâ we heard voices coming from the back, by the emergency exit. There must have been an echo because we thought they were together, butâ but they werenât, so we got there, andâ andââ
One voice was definitely coming from the foremanâs office, but the other was still out on the ruined floor of the factory somewhere, getting weaker every minute. All it took was a look, like always, for an entire plan to formulate. Split up, grab a victim each, meet back, get the hell out. Theyâd done it a thousand times before and would do it a thousand times more. They bumped fists before turning away from each other, hoses in hand to fight the blaze as well as they could on their own. Buck made it five steps before he heard Eddie yell his name. He looked over his shoulder, could see Eddieâs eyes crinkling through his mask in a hidden smile, and his first, inconvenient thought was heâs beautiful in the firelight.
âI love you,â Eddie says, or shouts, really. âMake it back to me in one piece, okay?â
And of course this is how it goes for them â six and half days after they poured their souls out to each other and became them, in the middle of a raging inferno, with people to save and their own lives on the line. Of course this is how it happens.
Buck couldnât help but smile, only rolling his eyes a little. âI love you too. Iâll see you in 10, I promise.â
He watched Eddie run into the fire before turning his back. Two minutes later, half of the roof collapsed on top of where Eddie definitely was, and Buck couldnât even scream because he had a terrified woman in his arms that he was trying to keep calm and get to safety. He barely held it together long enough to get her outside, moving farther and farther away from Eddie in the process. Strong hands held him in place as soon as he tried to run back into the building, dragged him towards an ambulance, ignoring his kicking and desperate pleas.
He swears he can still hear the sound of the ground beneath him grinding to a halt.
âOkay,â Bobby says, once again snapping Buck back to an unmoving reality. Heâs got that look on his face, the same one Buck saw directed at him after the well collapsed, except now he knows exactly what that look means. âBell and Mueller just went to the back, theyâre gonna see if they can spot him. Weâve got more hands and more tools coming, weâll start digging as soon as we can.â
âBobby, I needââ
âYou need to stay right here, Buck. Let Hen finish checking you out first, then you can lead the charge.â
Not for the first time, Buck is stupidly grateful for a team that knows him so well â that knows he needs this, that knows heâd force himself into the rescue efforts no matter what boundaries they tried to set. Heâs about to tell Bobby as much when his radio crackles to life.
âCap!â Bell shouts. âWeâve got him! Heâs pinned under a beam but heâs conscious, we need backup ASAP!â
Buckâs up before Bobby can respond. He runs, and the world starts spinning again.

After being mistreated by his alpha for the last time, Buck abandons his pack and heads for the city where heâs found by Eddie - another werewolf whoâs nothing like the ones Buck is used to. Eddie is gentle, kind, and has made a pack for himself and his son that Buck desperately wishes he could be a part of.
Thicker Than Water
Inspired by @zainclawâs post about Buckâs feelings around being called Christopherâs dad here is the first thing Iâve written since July 2021.Â

âYou two have an adorable son.â
It wasnât the first time and it wouldnât be the last time a stranger decided to comment on what they perceived to be his family. Two men and a young boy out in the world and everyone just assumed they belonged together.
Buck had spent four years of his career as a firefighter turning down proposals for a âproper thank youâ from distraught citizens. Every excuse he gave (âIâm takenâ, âIâm not interestedâ, âIâm currently dangling from a cliff, maybe now isnât the time to ask meâ) typically ended in the same shrug and eyeroll â as if to say: âwell, I gave it a shotâ â before they dropped the conversation all together.
But every once in a while, they would look at Buck, and then they would look at Eddie and apologize for hitting on his boyfriend before walking away.
While uncommon, Buck found he didnât particularly care if people thought he and Eddie were romantically involved. For one: it wasnât anyoneâs business who he was dating and, two: it added an extra layer of protection from the more persistent interested parties to know his partner could be lurking around any corner.
That is to say: he never lied to people when they assumed he and Eddie were together. But he would never correct them, either.
He was much more vigilant when it came to Christopher.
He loved that little boy and had already proven that he would go to the ends of the earth for him. And once or twice a month, Eddie would have to work and Buck would take Christopher for the afternoon. It would just be the two of them out in the world â usually the zoo because he had taken Eddieâs suggestion of âsomething inlandâ to heart after the tsunami had nearly torn them apart. He would be forever grateful that he was still trusted to care for the kid so he wasnât taking anymore chances. Instead, the two of them would stand in line for every new exhibit opening, and he would listen as Christopher taught him about whatever animal they were going to see (sometimes, he already knew about them but would listen just as intently). Â
Sometimes, Christopher would get tired from standing in line for so long and start to lean on Buck for support. And, though he offered to carry him, Buck would keep a steady hand on the boyâs back as they toddled forward. Sometimes, Christopher would get a second wind as the excitement to see the alpacas grew too high, giving him the energy to break away from Buck to get a closer look. Of course, Buck would keep pace just behind him, though calling out as though they were miles apart just to keep a smile on the boyâs face. Sometimes, a zookeeper would be answering Christopherâs questions to the best of their ability, and then look up at Buck and say: âIf itâs all right with your dad, you can pet her.â
And then Buckâs world would slam to a halt.

tell me about your zombie au fic? đ
ofc my love so like
eddie and buck meet during the zombie apocalypse. buck is looking for his sister, who, last he heard, had moved to los angeles without her husband. eddieâs been living in a small community with christopher in el paso that used to be military-controlled but has since been abandoned. no one interacts with each other; very much âevery man for himselfâ kind of feeling there
enter buck, whoâs on his way to cali. he mentions to eddie heâs heard there are thriving citizen-owned communities there with real borders and people live close to normal lives and also. thatâs where his sister was last, and he has to believe sheâs still alive. he convinces eddie to come with him!! they make it to cali!! they join the firefamâs enclosed, functioning community!! they have to pretend theyâre married!! stuff happens that i wonât say bc spoilers!!!
sometimes @zainclaw says something so true and so brave about Evan Buckley that you just have to make art
EXCUSE ME. TALK TO ME ABOUT EUROVISION FAN EDDIE DIAZ.
Listen, I'm at work and having a lot of Eddie Diaz feelings because of you.
Imagine little Eddie watching the Eurovision with his mom and sisters. They're taking the whole afternoon for it (if i didn't mess up looking the time difference) with a full stock of ice cream and popcorn.
But then Eddie grows up and doesn't really participate in it anymore because, well, his dad... (doesn't seem like he would be a big fan of Eddie watching this with the girls...).
BUT, since Eddie deserves all good things in life, he starts watching it again with Christopher and that becomes their thing once a year, just them with some ice cream and popcorn.
And if Christopher asks him if they can dress up for their special Eurovision afternoon, well Eddie never really learned to say no to him.
(If Chris asks him if maybe they could start inviting Buck to their special day, well Eddie doesn't really want to say no anyway).
