this is all so new to him. it’d taken some explaining for him to understand why she was putting a tree inside her house, christmas as a whole wasn’t something he was familiar with. all he knew was that this time of year was cold and there was snow everywhere and he hated it. eyebrows raise gently at the question, though he doesn’t refuse. stands slowly, eyes taking in the height of the tree and all the decorations already on it. he takes the star gently, and it takes a moment but he eventually manages to get it on the top. a moment is spent staring before attention is turned back to her, that same look on his face that always shows up right before he asks questions. “why star?”

head's quick to shake, fear evident. the scream as he woke up was probably the most she'd ever heard out of him, still hesitant to use words ‐ and often wouldn’t even know the words he needed to use. he's still trying to calm down, not crying anymore, but he's still struggling. “what... is tea?”

the words hit hard, feel wrong. she doesn’t know about him, about what he can do. that, he’s decided, is the only reason she's not afraid. the only possible reason. if she knew, if she understood, she'd be terrified. she'd leave him behind in an instant. its not like he wants her to do that, more that he expects it. she should be afraid, she should be running away. it'd be better for her that way, safer. and that’s without even getting into the mess that is the people after him. she is not safe for as long as she's with him, whether she's afraid or not.
his surprise and discomfort at those words is obvious, clear that he's not sure about any of this. he knows he's dangerous, he knows the people after him are just as bad. there's no safety here. and while usually he'd be happy that someone had faith in him, now feels like the wrong time. he's the most dangerous he's ever been; free, on the loose, unrestrained. silence lasts a while, hesitance clear. and then he speaks, something he’s never done around her before. “i am.”
IT’S NOT A KNOWN FACT that while arya is a selfish, ruthless creature, she has a soft spot for children. she can’t imagine herself simply standing in the sidelines while they’re in harm’s way. ❛ i have to do something to help that child, ❜ she says tersely. ❛ will you aide me ? ❜
