One the rare occasion he does, be gentle with him he’s a sensitive boy

If you can harness spirit energy he won’t care to much but a small part of him will be glad you can take care of yourself and sense strong demons so they won’t sneak up on you.

If your having problems he already knows but please talk to him, he’s over a thousand years old and will most likely have a solution to your problem

The city buzzed with the electric hum of nightlife, neon signs flickering in and out of focus like fireflies. Somewhere between the crowded streets and the deep pulse of distant music, Yusuke Urameshi found himself dragged into a situation he never thought he’d be in—standing outside a club, fidgeting with the hem of his jacket, glaring at the entrance like it had offended him.

“You know,” he grumbled, turning to you, “I don’t do this kind of crap.”

You smirked, stepping closer, so the streetlights caught the glimmer of mischief in your eyes. “What, you don’t dance?”

He scoffed. “Hell no.”

“Well, that’s a damn shame,” you sighed dramatically, tilting your head. “Because I do.”

Yusuke’s eyes flickered to your face, then down to where your fingers played idly with the strap of your bag. There was something about the way you looked at him—like you were testing him, waiting to see if he’d back out. And that made his stubborn streak flare to life.

“Fine,” he relented. “But if some guy starts gettin’ handsy with you, I’m breakin’ his nose.”

You rolled your eyes. “Noted, tough guy. Now come on.”

The club was loud, the bass heavy enough to rattle through the floor. Yusuke tensed instinctively as the crowd swallowed the both of you whole, his hand brushing against your lower back for just a second before he caught himself. You didn’t seem to notice, or maybe you did and just didn’t care. Either way, the warmth of your body this close made something coil tight in his chest.

The music shifted to something slower, sultry, the beat that encouraged close movements. You turned to face him, eyes dancing with amusement. “Don’t just stand there.”

Yusuke clenched his jaw. “I feel like an idiot.”

“Then be an idiot with me,” you teased, grabbing his hand and pulling him forward. “I won’t laugh.”

The first few moments were awkward as hell. Yusuke moved like a fighter rather than a dancer—tense, alert, bracing for something. But you… you moved so effortlessly, guiding him without pressure, giving him space, but also making sure he felt you there. And little by little, he followed.

His mind was at war with itself. He had spent years keeping his guard up, always ready for a fight, always prepared for the next blow to land. Dancing? Survival and necessity were quite far from it. Defenses were down. It was intimate. It was stepping into a world where he wasn’t in control, and that scared him more than any opponent ever had.

But there you were, easing him into something unfamiliar without making him feel weak. He hated how much he liked it.

Your hands moved to his shoulders, his to your waist, and before either of you could react, you found yourselves pressed together. Yusuke swallowed hard, the scent of your perfume making his brain feel foggy. The way you swayed, so close, so unbothered by the press of his body, had him damn near dizzy.

He didn’t even realize he was staring until you looked up at him. That teasing smile from earlier softened into something else.

“What?” he muttered.

“You’re not half-bad at this.”

“Yeah, well, don’t go tellin’ people. I got a rep.”

You laughed, the sound warm against his neck. His grip on your waist tightened just a little, an unconscious response to the way your body felt against his. It should’ve been harmless—just a dance, fun. But then you had to say something that sent his whole damn world tilting.

“I love you.”

His breath hitched. He barely had time to process before you added, “Do whatever you want with that info.”

Yusuke blinked, pulling back just enough to look at you fully. You were serious—no teasing, no deflection, just raw honesty staring him right in the face.

For once in his life, he was speechless.

Love? That wasn’t something people like him got. Love, a luxury and a weakness, was something he couldn’t afford. His mother’s slow decline in a drunken haze was what Love watched. Love was the friends he almost lost time and time again, the pain that came with caring too much. Love wasn’t for him.

And yet.

His heart slammed against his ribs, his mouth opening to say something, anything—but you just smiled, leaning in close, your breath ghosting over his lips.

“Think on it,” you whispered, then let go, stepping back into the crowd.

Yusuke stood frozen, watching as you disappeared into the sea of bodies, his pulse thrumming in his ears. Then, like something snapped in him, he surged forward, weaving through the crowd with one thought and one thought only:

He wasn’t letting you get away that easily.

You weren’t always this bold. Once upon a time, you would have shied away from crowds, avoiding places like this at all costs. Growing up, you were the quiet kid, the one who watched from the sidelines rather than stepping into the fray. It took years—painful, hard-fought years—to break free from that shell, to become the person who could drag a reluctant Yusuke Urameshi into a club and challenge him to a dance.

Maybe that’s why you liked him so much. He reminded you of who you used to be—restless, skeptical, always on edge. And maybe, just maybe, you wanted him to see that change was possible. That he could let go, even just for a little while.

But you hadn’t expected to let your feelings slip like that.

You weren’t sure what would come of it, but one thing was certain:

Yusuke wouldn’t ignore it.

Epilogue

Hours later, the club had thinned out, and the city outside had settled into a quieter hum. You sat on a low wall outside, the cool night air brushing against your skin, lost in thought. Then, a shadow loomed beside you.

“You really mean what you said back there?” Yusuke’s voice was low, hesitant.

You looked up at him, offering a small smile. “Yeah. I did.”

He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. “I—” He hesitated, then sighed. “I don’t know how to do this. But I don’t want you to walk away thinking I don’t care.”

Your heart clenched at his honesty. “I don’t need you to have all the answers, Yusuke. Just… be here.”

For a moment, he just looked at you. Then, with an almost imperceptible nod, he sat beside you, his shoulder brushing against yours. No grand declarations, no perfect words—just presence.

ACTS OF SERVICE: This is the love language he ends up doing the least, kinda. It depends on your specific definition of acts of service.

I say that because I believe Yusuke does everything with you, more than he does things for you. For example, if he buys dinner for the both of you, he’s more focused on the act of eating together rather than being the one who took initiative.

But Yusuke definitely does smaller, detailed oriented stuff that doesn’t even register as affection to him. He will tie your shoes, organize your papers, carry your bag, and anything else he thinks will help you in the moment.

He appreciates anything you decide to do for him, of course, but Yusuke will rarely ask or expect anything from you. He’s just not wired that way!

GIFTS: Do NOT let him buy you gifts! He cannot afford them!

Genuinely, you have to tell him not to unless for special occasions, or else he will not have enough money to eat. Alternatively, Akira will bail him out and actually be the person paying for your gift.

He likes to buy you flowers. He thinks flowers are beautiful, and he thinks you’re beautiful, so it’s perfect!

In terms of his gift giving skill for special occasions, like birthdays, he is the type to remember hyper specific details you mentioned offhandedly. Sometimes, you don’t even remember saying you wanted something, but Yusuke always will.

“A few months ago, you mentioned that your bag always feels disorganized, so I got you a new bag with a lot of pockets.”

The best gift you can give him, besides a meal, is a sketchbook. He goes through them quickly, and high quality ones are always out of his budget (set by you and the rest of his friends). 

Yusuke used to be pretty disorganized with his sketches, and he’s lost plenty, but after you started gifting him sketchbooks with loving notes written on the first page, he cherishes them forever.

QUALITY TIME: I think this is Yusuke’s preferred love language, both giving and receiving.

As seen in the game, Yusuke likes to be around his loved ones, even if it’s as simple as just being in the same room together, doing separate activities.

Yusuke had the habit of showing up unannounced to your place for any number of reasons, and you told him he had to warn you first after more than one incident where he showed up when you weren’t home.

His idea of bliss is laying on the floor of your bedroom, painting, while listening to you talk about your day. He claims to be the most productive when he’s around you, but you have reason to believe that’s wrong.

Sometimes he will ask you for feedback, sometimes he will ask you to stay still for 3 hours so he can draw you (before you tell him just to take a picture as reference), and sometimes he will simply show up for the sole purpose of sitting in the same space together.

Genuinely, “nothing,” is his favorite activity. Dates are fun, but so is sitting idly by.

PHYSICAL TOUCH: It takes Yusuke some time to integrate physical touch into your relationship. Not because he didn’t want it, but because he literally doesn’t think about it.

There wasn’t much room for physical affection in his childhood after his mother died, so he doesn’t have the instincts for it.

He is touch-starved and has no idea until you enlighten him. The first time you give him a hug, Yusuke is certain he is in love with you. The first time you two kiss, Yusuke doesn’t want to ever be without you.

After crossing those thresholds, Yusuke starts to initiate physical affection more often. To be honest, he’s kinda awkward about it in that he likes making contact with you in any way; holding hands is great, but he also seems satisfied putting his hand on the top of your head.

One of Yusuke’s favorite rituals is, when you’re meeting up for a date, you come up behind him to hug him. He adores the wonderful surprise to the point that he will literally face the opposite direction he knows you will arrive from.

The first time that you and Yusuke met, it felt a bit awkward at first. Though to Yusuke, it was not a terrible experience. He found comfort in your silence, and when the two of you started getting to know each other, he started seeking out your company more and more. He understands that you may have a hard time opening up at first, so he is content with just painting side by side with you. 

After Madarame‘s Palace, he would be even braver, letting you in more in his personal space. Perhaps introducing you to Akira, or asking you to join him as he goes people-watching. When you guys eventually become a couple, he lets you take your time to warm up to him. He was very patient with you because he understands you may have difficulty with expressing your feelings.

If people mistake your reserved nature for something malicious, Yusuke is quick to defend your honor. How dare they speak ill about you? He personally does not care if people found him weird, but he would not stand if they spoke badly about you. He will not be afraid to speak his mind and tell those people off.

“Yusuke… May I hold your hand?”

Yusuke was taken aback. But he gives you a soft smile as he intertwines his fingers with yours. It was the first time you initiated something with him, and he appreciates it greatly. “My darling, always.”

Whenever you initiate anything with him, he is beyond elated and happily indulges you. Over time, the distances between you whenever you are painting are getting closer, the texts you sent him are getting longer, and he finds that the times you are initiating physical contact with him are getting more frequent. His friends notice the changes in his mood too, he is all smiles after spending time with you. Also, he seemed to have picked up a few things from you. 

Whenever you share anything with Yusuke, whether it’s about some new art piece that fascinated you, or some new song that you have been humming nonstop, Yusuke will register that information into a section in his brain that is strictly about you. He is quite observant, and that trait of his seems to be even more enhanced when it comes to you. So whatever song it is you are humming, he is humming it as well. That new art piece you talked to him about? He is also talking about it to his friends, saying his wonderful partner introduced him to it.

Yusuke is also not ashamed to engage in a little PDA with you. He does not mind if you want to hold his hand in public, have a quick peck, or a short hug. Anything more than that would have to be done in privacy, though.

“Hey, Yusuke, oh and hello Y/N!” Though the two of you were a bit awkward at first, Ann can’t help but find the way you held on to Yusuke’s hand and how Yusuke held both of your bags, to be quite adorable. 

- we all know yusuke is pretty dense. he doesn’t really understand social cues. that denseness transfers to his feelings for you as well! only when talking to joker about you did he realize he liked you.

- joker suggested that he could tell jokes to you, which he did, but only with a straight face. he’d tell you some wordplay jokes and explain it afterwards. even if he doesn’t really know how to deal with social situations, this side of him is still super cute!

- joker would glaze yusuke infront of you LMAO

- yusuke would ask joker for advice. “what should i get them?”, “do you think they’ll like this?”. i mean, who wouldn’t go for joker for advice?

- joker is very well known for his good cooking, so he decided to teach yusuke how to cook proper meals! at first, it didn’t go too well. somehow, yusuke managed to make the curry a dark purple. fortunately for you, he slowly got better!

- yusuke would paint you or paint you things with the help of joker guiding him. though, it is rare for him to gift you a painting. this may seem out of character but i promise i have a good reason!! he wants to give you the most perfect painting he can. he wants to express his care and love for you in a clear way!

- joker, being the generous wingman he is, would give some money to yusuke to spend on you. surprisingly, yusuke declines since he has… MONEY??!!! yes, yusuke actually saves his money for you specifically. if you told him you liked flowers, he’d get you them the next day.
