You shook your head. Yeojun didn’t ask anything more—he simply shifted the blanket so half fell over your shoulders, the motion natural, warm, quiet. You sat beside him on the window bench, knees brushing lightly beneath the shared fabric.

Outside, the sky was still navy, but a faint haze of pale purple lingered on the horizon.

“I sit here sometimes—when I can’t settle,” he murmured, voice hushed in the stillness. “Watching the morning come makes things feel…less stuck.”

You watched him as much as the sky. The reflection of the barely-there light shimmered in his eyes—steady, thoughtful, gentle. It suited him in a way that made your chest feel too warm for the cold hour.

“Do you always watch it alone?” you asked softly.

Yeojun lowered his chin to his knee. “Usually. But…I don’t mind this.”

You didn’t either. The quiet between you fit perfectly—unhurried, not heavy, not searching. Just shared.

Slowly, almost shyly, the sky shifted. The purple deepened, pink bleeding across the clouds in soft strokes—like someone brushing color onto the world by hand.

Yeojun exhaled, breath fogging faintly in the cool air. “There it is.”

You leaned against him without thinking—shoulder to shoulder under the blanket. His warmth was subtle but grounding, like the slow blooming of dawn itself.

“It’s beautiful,” you whispered.

Yeojun looked at you, not the sunrise. “Yeah…it is.”

For a moment, neither of you moved. The sun pushed a golden edge over the horizon, painting your faces in light. Yeojun’s fingers brushed against yours beneath the blanket—hesitant at first—then settling with quiet certainty when you didn’t pull away.

He spoke without looking at you, voice soft as the morning light.

“If you can’t sleep again…wake me. We can watch it together.”

Your heart stuttered the way the light flickered across his cheeks.

“I’d like that,” you said.

He smiled—a small, sleepy, sunrise-soft smile you knew you’d remember long after the sky turned bright.
