#internationalwomensday 💕 Yennega- African legend, female warrior and Burkina Faso's female icon, Yennega was a free and independent woman who mothered Ouedraogo, the founder of the dynasties of the Moose chieftains. Her story is set between the fourteenth and fifteenth century, daughter of the King of Gambaga (present day's northern Ghana), Yennega tired of her role as chief warrior, ran away in the forest, here she met a young elephant hunter from another country, Riale. Together they had a son, Ouedraogo. Ouedraogo was the founder of the centuries old lineage of Moose chieftains in Burkina Faso, whose descendants still embody political power today. Yennega is Burkina Faso's national emblem, she personifies independence and freedom, as nothing, society, tradition nor paternal authority could stand in her way.
