Yoruba Yemoja float with 10,000 Litres of water by Mocidade Alegre Won the São Paulo Carnival 2026 in Brazil!
This majestic allegorical float, a viral sensation during the parade, featured Yemoja (Iemanjá) Yemoja was powerfully incorporated because the enredo “Malunga Léa – Rapsódia de uma Deusa Negra” was a heartfelt tribute to the late legendary Brazilian actress Léa Garcia (1930–2023).
A pioneering African icon in theater, film, and TV (famous for roles like in Escrava Isaura and her work with Teatro Experimental do Negro). The theme celebrated her as a "deusa negra" ("Black" Goddess): her resilience, ancestral strength, female empowerment, and trailblazing representation of Afro-Brazilian identity.
🐚 Yemoja - Mother of the Orisha 🫧
went to the museum with my homegirl and met one of her friends, she was really cool, a Black trans woman that also is in the anarchist study group. we had a good conversation about the exhibit and our critiques of it. i had a lot more to say on my second viewing of it, a lot more i noticed and felt icky about too. after that, we met with another one of her friends who’s a hoodoo & Ifa practitioner; we went to the bay by my house and did a winter solstice affirmation spell with apples, it was fun and refilled my cup immensely. i love communing with other Black women.
i learn a lot every time we link 🔗.
