Is it possible/safe to go grey and become a cop? I understand it's an important job and if people who are upset about unfair policing don't go into the field then how will it get better, but I don't want to try it, get rejected for being ex-red, have all my new neighbors hate me, have it spread around and not really have many cousins in my new caste to look to for support. Are there any born-greys who'd give me a chance? Is it recoverable if it turns out to be a mistake to try?

I think this could depend enormously on the character of an individual police department. If, as it sounds, you’re considering being openly ex-red at your job, I’d ask before you declare a caste of various departments if any of them are interested in having you, maybe in some kind of liaison or specialist role.
It might not be very recoverable. Check the policies of sports leagues, local sex work listing websites if applicable, your country’s military, etc., wherever you might naively look for backup jobs - a lot of places preemptively state policies on ex-reds. If you don’t have at least two possible backup plans, neither of which is “swap to Miolee” (grey’s a hard sell), I wouldn’t go for it even with an offer in hand from a police department.
