2021 is finally over. I was completely wrapped up in finishing another project and spending time with friends for the past few days so I forgot to do this, but here’s a summary of what happened in 2021.

Word Count?

Across original under my other pennames and the fanfiction written with this one, I’ve written around 800,000 words in 2021. For fanfiction written under this penname (FaultyParagon) specifically, it’s around 510,000 words. It’s a lot less than last year, but I’m okay with that.

Most written-about ship?

Wrightworth has won this battle with about 275,000 words. I’ve had a ton of fun writing Wrightworth content, and this community has been incredibly positive overall. There’s been some nonsense here and there, but I’ve had a really lovely time here in general, and I hope that continues for the future! To everyone who’s reached out to chat on Tumblr or Discord, thanks- you’ve been wonderful <3

Favourite ship to write about?

It’s got to be Wrightworth again, as trace (vestiges) has been a wonderful thing to write. I was never expecting it to become my second-longest fic, but here we are! 

Number of fics started this year?

16 fics, which is much less than last year! The beauty of no longer being in quarantine XD

Number of fics completed this year?

13 fics! These ones were, in general, far longer than the fics I wrote last year AND I was far busier, so it makes sense. I’m just glad I managed to get rid of all my FairGame content this year- I am free of that fandom <3

Number of podfics?

19 podfic tracks! Not a ton, but I’ll get back into it, don’t worry :)

Favourite fics?

This one is always hard for me...

trace (vestiges) (Wrightworth - Ace Attorney) - It’s been a lot of fun! I’m still stunned that it grew to be 220k words, because I was very much intending on writing something that was MAYBE 10k... oh well. I’ve had a blast :D

Opus (FairGame - RWBY) - It was incredibly satisfying writing this fic after hearing all of the strange theories people were coming up with ;)

Right Amount of Sugar (Riso/Soriku - Kingdom Hearts) - After starting it in 2020, it was really rewarding to finish it this year. It was also my first longer KH fic, despite KH being what brought me into fic to begin with! I really like how it turned out.

call me when you want (Wrightworth - Ace Attorney) - Honestly, the idea for the fic came from a joke after a really rough day this summer. I wasn’t expecting it to become one of my favourites, but that had to happen thanks to the readers who made it absolutely hilarious. Everyone’s reactions brought me a lot of joy <3 If you’re ever wondering what a great comment section looks like, check it out!

ride with me (Hellhound/QrowxMarrow - RWBY) - I adore cowboy stories, but I have never found a cowboy fic I liked. This fic is something I’ve been thinking about writing for literally over a year, so it’s really rewarding to be finally posting it. These two are also my fave Marrow ship, so it’s great to be putting it out there at last.

Least favourite fics?

These fics are very much things that I did not have fun writing, regardless of whether or not they were successful. It is what it is, but I’m glad I’m done and that I’m free :D

Overall year impressions:

What a strange time to be alive. This year was busy and filled with a lot of success, as well as a lot of busyness. I’ve had a pretty positive time overall; everything I’ve done has improved my life, knowledge, and well-being. Despite the ongoing pandemic (and Omicron threatening to turn everything upside-down again) I know that I’m in a really good place, and for that I am grateful.

The stories I’ve written this year were much more for fun that in 2020. In 2020, writing was mainly a coping mechanism. While that continues to be true here (it’s always been a coping mechanism for me) it was much more positive this year overall, and I’ve been truly writing whatever I want, reactions be damned. I’m grateful for that- there’s been a lot of people I’ve cut out of my life this year, especially in fandom, but I am very happy I did so as it really did make a difference! (It’s also been kind of rewarding seeing the toxic communities I was harassed by lose their steam, so that’s a great feeling, ngl)

To finish up, I’ll just repeat what I said last year:  thank you to everyone who has ever read, commented, followed, or left a kudo on/bookmarked/subbed/liked/reblogged my work. Getting that feedback means the world to me, and the friends I’ve made through fic are genuinely lovely!
