The idea of Graysen still being a real romantic option for Elain for some people genuinely makes me SICK
I don’t follow Yaz and I didn’t even know who she was before entering the fandom, but earlier I saw a tweet showing one of her stories from March and I was honestly a little perplexed… I know she’s Gwynriel and I’m not even trying to make this about ships, but she really doesn’t hide the fact that she dislikes Elain.
The story was basically about how Elain’s “free will” could be choosing between returning to her human life with Graysen or remaining Fae and choosing Lucien outside of the bond.
And I’m sorry but… that would MAYBE make sense if Graysen had actually shown himself to be a decent person after Elain was turned into a fae, instead he literally looked at her with disgust. Why should Elain’s journey toward agency and self-acceptance revolve around reclaiming the approval of a man who rejected her after one of the most traumatic moments of her life?
I also really dislike the implication that Elain’s “happy ending” or “free will” would somehow be tied to becoming human again. Why does Elain specifically have to reject what she became in order to have agency? Feyre and Nesta both found empowerment in accepting themselves as Fae. Why should Elain’s arc be about undoing herself?
And honestly, saying Graysen is important because “he’s the one she has history with” is WIIIIIILD 😭 having history with someone does not automatically make the relationship meaningful. Sometimes people are just part of your past.
