I said something in the DFcord that in terms of strength, Yashta is mechanically similar yet superior to Tomix, but after taking a closer look, I'm starting to think he's actively trying to fill the Tomix-shaped hole in our hearts.
This is how Tomix stands in combat.
This is how Yashta stands in combat now. This happened during the Sandsea Rift, which took place after Void Ship Saga. He didn't do this during the Void War.
And then there's Securing The Sandsea, also taking place after Void Ship Saga. He wants us to run around the desert with him, going places to put down pylons. There's two very important details here:
One, this feels very similar to how we helped Tomix run around Ravenloss to find the Gate Keys.
Two, Yashta runs like this.
Is this not the Soulweaver Run?
In a nutshell, post-Void Ship, Yashta has a similar stance, uses magic hands and even runs similar to Tomix. Reading between the lines, I think Yashta does this to honor the person he was sworn to protect. I think he's trying to be Tomix for us, and I find that a fascinating development.

The journey back from the Ynnungaap was spent in silence. VS Unity was battered but Eirn had assured everyone that it could still take them back to Pellow Village, and he and the other gnomes were keeping an eye on things below deck while the Hero, Izaac, Riadne, Yashta and Mazurek remained above, each trying to process what had just happened.
A flash of yellow light drew the Heroâs attention, and they turned to where Pandora had appeared back from the Plane of Elemental Spirits. âSo?â
Pandora shook her head, her expression sombre. âHe isnât there.â
They hadnât thought that they could hurt any more than they were, but her words still send a dull thud of pain through them. âI don't understand! I thought Soulweavers go to the Plane of Elemental Spirits after they die!â
âThey do,â Pandora replied softly. âI don't know why he isn't there.â She lowered her head, reaching out to the Hero through their bond. âI'm sorryâŚâ
Izaac looked up from where he was comforting Riadne, who was lying in his lap and covering her face as she wept quietly. âSomeone has to notify his family.â
âI will do it.â
âWe didn't take VaalâŚâ Mazurek mumbled.
The Heroâs expression tightened. âHe ran away. I don't care about him.â
Footsteps sounded on the deck, and attention was drawn to Eirn having joined them. âSorry to interrupt, but we are reaching the vortex. The Void Drive is powered up by the Ynnungaap Core energy, we might be able to pierce through, but it will be a rough ride.â
The Hero gave a bitter laugh. âIt can't be much worse than what we had to endure getting here. Let's go, I'm done with this placeâŚâ
As Eirn had warned, the return back to Pellow Village was rough, VS Unity shuddering and making concerning splintering noises as the Void Drive pushed it through the vortex, the crew looking up from inside their cabins, holding tightly to each other, but eventually the ship made it through, and in comparison it was smooth sailing back to the dock at Pellow Village.
The gnomes and the Soulweavers were the first to disembark, making their way back to the Equilibrium Gate and Ravenloss, then Mazurekâs crew and finally the six of them, taking one last glance around the village sealed in the Void â the Hero in particular taking in the statue of Pandora at the entrance â before passing through the gate. As the last of them, Yashta, emerged on the other side there was a rumbling sound and the purple translucent barrier became solid, the glowing key runes growing dull once again, as they had been when the Hero had first journeyed to the underground town.
âThe void,â Riadne breathed, looking around. âIt's not here anymore.â Sure enough, where there was once a void path leading to the Equilibrium Gate, and floating houses, were now regular cobblestones like the rest of Ravenloss, and houses planted firmly on the ground.
The Hero nodded at the structure behind them, Pandora having appeared next to them. âAnd the Equilibrium Gate sealed itself. I donât think weâll be going back.â
âProbably for the best,â Eirn mused. âSo, this⌠is where we part ways.â
The Hero closed their eyes and nodded again. âThank you everyone⌠it has been quite a journey. AndâŚand in the end, Tomix did stop AsparâŚâ
âYes he did,â Izaac replied quietly. âTake care, Hero.â
Riadne offered a slightly watery smile. âVisit us someday.â
âI will.â
âI will stay here, in Ravenloss, should you need me, Hero,â Yashta intoned.
âI shall always be by your side,â Pandora added softly.
Mazurek gave a wistful sigh. âVS Unity was a beautiful lady, but I must get back to me own ship.â
âSail safe,â the Hero looked down at their hands, which were shaking slightly. âThis may be where we part ways, but we'll be seeing each other soon. At theâŚâ
Riadne placed a hand on their shoulder. âWe'll be there.â
****
The Hero couldnât remember much of the next few days, passing as if they were a dream (or a nightmare), just snippets; leading the Soulweaving students and teachers back to Edelia, Danyel sitting stony-faced at his desk when they delivered the news, a lilac elemental spirit hovering beside him, Barvra falling back into a chair and covering her face with her hands, while Katia stood there in shock.
Somehow they were able to make it back to Falconreach, practically stumbling through the door of the inn, Serenity taking one look at them and gently guiding them up to their usual room and sitting them down on the bed, closing the door behind her with the promise of bringing them some fresh baked bread and soup.
The Hero went through the motions of removing their soulweaving uniform as if in a trance, that was only broken when they got to their belt, the belt that held Pandoraâs cube.
The belt Tomix wove for them.
The sound that emerged from their throat as they sank to their knees was barely human, a mixture of sobbing and howling, the purest sound of grief that sent their dragon hurtling into their lap, snuggling into their chest, that summoned Pandora to the material world as she wrapped her arms around them in a hug they couldnât feel, their knuckles turning white as they gripped the belt, as if this physical memory of Tomix could bring him back.
****
All too soon, it was time.
âDoes anyone have something to add?â Danyel asked once heâd finished his speech, looking down at the gravestone nestled under the sprawling tree branches.
âI do,â Izaac spoke up as Riadne sniffled quietly beside him. âAt least, I think I'll go first. Tomix was a friend. I can remember the day the two of us first met at Edelia. No one could have ever guessed at the time that we would ever get along together. We were complete opposites. I was the quiet, studious one. He was the angsty teen and a terrible prankster. We were really a terrible match for each other. We should have been sworn enemies really. Each of us had our own childhood issues to deal with... and yet we still became the very best of friends. I think that's the most important thing to say about him.â
He paused for a moment to compose himself, Riadneâs sniffles having turned to sobs. âIn all times, before he was banished or on his journey after wherever he went, even if it might not have always beenâŚrequited, he was a good friend to everyone that was important to him. Loyal from the beginning... right up to the very end.â
âTOMIX!â Riadne wailed, falling to her knees and weeping uncontrollably, Izaac dropping down next to her and wrapping his arms around her.
Mazurek sighed, looking down at a small amulet she held in her hand. âYe know, 'luv, yer not the first man to have taken up on an adventure like that. I've seen many. Comin' in with yer handsome, pretty looks and yer fighting skills. Promisin' a wild adventure like no other⌠Life be filled with plenty of short lived and passing acquaintances. Aye, a pirate's life it is. Saying that you be no more that though⌠I'd be wrong. Listen⌠I mayen't have pretty words or fond memories like yer friends 'ere. I were the ship's Captain, surely, but ye⌠ye were sailin' in yer own storm as well, weren't ye? One so terrible and so violent, ye knew that, no matter how ye'd sail, no matter how hard ye fought against it, eventually⌠ye'd sink and join Davey's Locker.â
She lowered her head and added quietly. âStill kept to the wheel though. Ye still sailed because ye knew that though ye might go down tryin', ye could still save the one thing that mattered. Ye could still save yer crew. Ye were a brave Captain to us all, Tomix, 'cause ye had the true heart of one.â
One by one, everyone slowly left, whispering their goodbyes, until there was just the Hero and Danyel left. For a while, neither said anything until Danyel, without turning around, spoke hollowly.
âYou didn't keep your promise.â
The Hero said nothing as he left, leaving them alone with the grave of their best friend, taking several deep breaths before stepping up to it. âHey⌠You know... I'm not good at goodbyes either. It's not that I wouldn't be able to find the words for it. I justâŚI just don't really like them.â
Pausing, they looked up at the sky, the setting sun painting the clouds orange and yellow. âIt's strange... right now, memories are flashing by my eyes, flooding my mind. A flood so strong, it hurts. But I'm not about to die or anything. And it's not my life I'm seeing, it's⌠It's our adventures.â
A small smile formed as they looked back down again. âLike that first Mogloween... you appearing out of nowhere just as troubles were starting. Ten seconds later, you tell me to die. That was good one. And then we kicked Greed's butt for the first time. Hah! The look on his face when we had foiled his plans for Falconreach! But that wasn't even the beginning, wasn't it? IâŚI only actually got to know you when we met again in Ravenloss. Spelunking through Ravenloss was completely crazy and dangerous. Running through alleys and places filled with angry half spider, half human Chaosweavers out for our blood. But at the same timeâŚso many interesting things happened. For all of Ravenloss' darkness, it did have plenty of curious mysteries and stories to uncover. Embodiments, traces of Vaal and Murk at many turns⌠We met and made friends. First Riadne and her, heh, feisty personality at the Weaver Emporium. And then you reunited and I met Izaac at Mystlyk Museum. And before I knew it... you and your SpiritLooms had become a familiar and friendly sight.â
A breeze ruffled the Heroâs hair poking out from their Soulweaving hood as they inhaled, almost lost in the memories. âYour hijinks with Riadne⌠Your determination to see your mission throughâŚâ The smile faded. âThat wasn't our last adventure though. We had one more. One that was just as crazy, adventuring and dangerous, if not more so. And nowâŚit's coming to a close. That's whyâŚâ A sob escaped past their lips, tears falling yet they pushed on, determined to get their message out, for Tomix, and for themself. âT-That's WHY... I-I want to s-SAYâŚTHANK YOU!â
âIt was fun⌠It was so very, very fun to go on adventures with youâŚâ

The stars in the deep purple sky of the Void winked down at Tomix as he leant over the railings of one of the balconies of the Void Ship. They were close, so close, to reaching Envy and he could finally complete his quest, even though that meant he had toâŚ
The sound of approaching footsteps made him turn his head, and despite his sombre mood, his lips quirked up at the sight of the Hero. "Hey. How's Pandora?"
"She'sâŚcalmer," the Hero rubbed the back of their neck. "She's still pretty emotional after regaining her memories â and as she's the Elemental Spirit of Woe, she tends to feel that particular emotion pretty strongly â but she's determined to help us stop Envy."
"I'm glad to hear it," Tomix nodded, turning back to watch the sky.
The Hero bit their lip as they examined him, noting his paler skin and dimmer eyes, concern for the wellbeing of one of their closest friends welling up inside them. "How are you holding up?"
Tomix sighed deeply, hanging his head and closing his eyes. "I'm tired, Hero. I'm so very tired... I've been on this quest since I was just a kid. Thirteen years. Thirteen long years and my journey is finally at its end. He's the only one left." Opening his eyes, he raised his head again and inhaled deeply. "You know, I sometimes wonder what my life would be if I had not released them. The six corrupted spirits and... Aspar. I'd graduate from Edelia, travel the world, find a partner." His lips curved into a small smile. "We'd get married, open up a small weaving shop, age together, get fat and have many children."
The Hero snickered.
The smile vanished and Tomix sagged against the railing, looking as tired as he said he was. "And instead my life is a series of unfortunate events."
The Hero stepped forwards so they were alongside him. "Surely there must have been at least one good event?"
Tomix paused before turning to look at them. "You."
"Me?"
The small smile returned. "Yeah. After we met, during my hunt for Greed, I was always looking forward to your arrival in Ravenloss. I've really enjoyed adventures with you. It was good having someone else watch your back."
The Hero blushed slightly before grinning. "Hey now, we'll have many more new adventures ahead of us after we banish Envy!"
Tomix's expression dropped again and he turned back to face the Void before his eyes widened. "We're here!"
****
The Void Ship circled the strange building of towers and corridors, with the swirling purple and black Void Core situated in the middle, sending up a beam of lighter purple light. The ship was keeping its distance and Tomix had sent Aegis to have a look at the building's layout, so the crew could plan their next move.
A flash of icy blue light alerted the Soulweaver that his SoulAlly had returned. "Good, you're back! How are things?"
"Give me a second," Aegis raised his hand and began to draw a birds-eye map of the structure from ice, revealing several large corridors circling around the open centre, with the Void Ship at the entrance. "There. No one has spotted me, and I got a good view of the entire structure. This is how it looks like from the top." At Aegis's direction, the open centre began to glow softly. "The core is here." The square block in front of the centre began to glow. "The chamber is the only way leading to it." Next to glow was a block of ice connecting the ship and the chamber. "This corridor goes straight into the main chamber." The two corridors on either side of the main corridor lit up. "These two corridors on both sides do not connect to the main chamber itself, however...The door leading into the main chamber appears to be enchanted by Envy. It is engulfed by a weird, swirling green energy."
Aegis dissipated the map and turned the face the rest of the crew. "All the corridors are swarming with void creatures. And... that's not all. These two corridors that I've mentioned... there is an âunlocking mechanismâ at the end of each of them..."
Tomix frowned. "How can you possibly know this? Envy wouldn't be that daft."
Aegis sighed, his expression twisting slightly. "Because... it literally says 'unlocking mechanism' in big, bright letters...over the two human beings who are connected by this weird green energy to the door."
Izaac gasped, his eyes widening in horror. "Oh Avatars, I know what Envy did..."
"What?" Riadne asked in trepidation
"Seal of Ativa!" Izaac choked out. "He used the very existence of those two people in order to lock the door shut. The only way to unlock them is toâ "
"âKill those two people..." Tomix finished, expression tightening.
The Hero snarled. "That's sick!" Through their bond, they felt a pang of intense sadness from Pandora and they brushed their fingers over the cube by their side. âIt's not your fault Pandora, I promise. He did this himself, and we will stop him!'
"There has to be another way to unlock it!" Riadne insisted.
Izaac shook his head. "No, you don't understand. Seal of Ativa is one of the few legendary and forbidden magics. Magics like this don't have any loopholes. You can't break their rules."
Tomix clenched his fists as Aegis rested his hand on his shoulder, sending support through their bond. "We are too close to back up now! I am aware that this whole situation is sick, but we have to do this... we are too close..."
" I will do it," Yashta intoned solemnly.
"Blimey! And so will I," Captain Mazurek added. "I did worse thin's than that."
Riadne whirled round to face them. "I... can't believe you people are even considering this! What's wrong with you?!"
Mazurek scowled. "Sweetie, leave sailing t' the sea legs."
"Stop fighting!" The Hero broke in. "We have to be united, now more than ever!" Once things had calmed down, they nodded and turned to Tomix. "Okay. We all need to do this together. Tomix, what's the plan?"
Tomix watched the building in the distance. "I'm fighting my way through the middle corridor to the door. Hero, Aegis, you're in?"
Aegis and the Hero nodded determinedly. "Absolutely."
****
As Aegis had promised, all three corridors were packed with Void spawn. Izaac, Riadne, Yashta and the Soulweavers had gone down the left hand corridor and Mazurek, her crew and Vaal had taken the right, leaving the Hero, the Dragon, Tomix and Aegis to go down the middle.
A Void elemental lunged at the Hero, but they dodged out of the way. "Oh you, stop ticking me!" they smirked before finishing the elemental off. Next to them, Tomix was completing his retribution attack to defeat a Decadere youngling.
A group of Void monsters decided to charge at once at the Hero, hoping to overwhelm them but in a flash of white and yellow light, Pandora appeared before them, armed with a large scythe with a rainbow blade and her sigil in the middle of it. Twirling the scythe in her grip, she proceeded to hurl in at the approaching enemies, with the scythe turning into a spinning disc that sliced through them all before returning to her grasp.
"Wow!" the Hero whistled appreciatively. "Nice moves, Pandora!" Their SoulAlly smiled in thanks and the Hero turned their head to check on Tomix before their eyes widened as another Decadere youngling tried to attack the Soulweaver's turned back. "Tomix, look out!"
Tomix whirled around but before the monster could attack him, Aegis appeared and batted the Void creature away with his shield. "Thanks, Aegis."
The elemental spirit grinned. "I've got your back!"
A flicker of pain passed over Tomix's face and he lowered his head as memories of when he and Aspar were bonded, when he thought his best friend had his back the way that Aegis did now, filled his head. Fortunately, he was jerked out of the painful trip down memory lane as one of the communication balls that Eirn had given them on the ship crackled into life.
"Hello? Is this working? Hello?"
"Yes!" Tomix replied. "Izaac?"
"Tomix, bad news. We lost a few Soulweavers and the majority of them are injured. Riadne's patching them up and Yashta is doing his best to keep us safe, but there are simply too many Void creatures. We have to go back!"
"Izaac, please... you can't..." Tomix implored. We're so closeâŚwe have to stop himâŚI have toâŚ
"What's going on?" The Hero asked, fighting their way over to Tomix as Pandora and Aegis kept any approaching Void monsters from attacking while the two of them talked.
Tomix hung his head. "Yashta's team isn't doing well, Izaac wants to retreat."
The Hero glanced at the two elemental spirits. "Could Aegis help?"
Tomix exhaled shakily. "You're right; he could. Are you alright with that, Aegis?"
"Of course!"
Tomix nodded and turned back to the Hero. "I don't know why I didn't think of thatâŚ"
"You're under a lot of stress," the Hero reassured him. "You take a moment to catch your breath while I sort this out, then we can get back to fighting, okay?"
"YesâŚthank you, Hero."
The Hero turned to the communication balls. "IZAAC, CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"
"Gaaah... yes!" Izaac yelped. "You don't have to yell!"
"Oh, okay. Listen, we're sending Aegis over to you, he'll make an ice wall between you and the creatures. You'll be able to rest and gather your strength."
"That would be very helpful master!" Yashta's voice sounded over the speakers.
The Hero scowled. "Stop calling me master!"
"Apologies. That would be helpful, Hero."
Aegis gave Tomix and the Hero a thumbs up before teleporting away with a flash of ice.
"Now, excuse me," the Hero turned to Tomix and grinned before calling their dragon. "Let's go!" The two of them charged towards the enemy lines and Tomix allowed himself a small smile before returning to the communication balls.
"Maz?"
"I be a wee busy dear."
Tomix frowned slightly. "How are things on your side? Is Vaal helping at all? Is he fighting?"
"Oh, he be fightin' alright..." Mazurek replied, sounding very amused. "But wit' his Soul Lass."
Tomix blinked. "His... what?"
From the background of the speakers he could just about hear a very irritated female voice. "...And you're summoning me after five years, expecting me to help you?!"
"Alee, this is NOT the right time for this!" Vaal protested. "I need Transcendence! I need my weapon to defend myself! Or would you rather let me die?!"
"I really don't care."
"TRANSCENDENCE!" Vaal bellowed.
Evidently, Vaal's SoulAlly acquiesced as Mazurek gave a hearty laugh. "Yarr, we be doin' great darlin'."
"Erm... alright," Tomix shook his head as his brain raced to catch up with what had happened. "Keep me updated." Allowing himself another small smile, he raced to catch up with the Hero as they continued to defeat the Void monsters with their Dragon and Pandora by their side.
"Everyone okay?"
"Yes; Aegis will help Izaac's team and Mazurek's team is good to fight together, now that Vaal has stopped squabbling with his 'Soul Lass', as Maz put it."
"IâŚsee," the Hero raised their eyebrow before grinning. "You'd never catch me fighting with my Soul Lass, would we Pandora?"
For the first time since the island that held her memories, Pandora let out a tinkling laugh.
Tomix let out a small chuckle (how long had it been since he had laughed? Not since he had found out thatâŚ) as he and the Hero ran forwards together into battle. "We're halfway through, let's go."
****
They didn't know how long it took to defeat the rest of the Void creatures but eventually, Tomix and the Hero reached the doors to the chamber. Aegis had rejoined them a while back â with Pandora returning to her cube so her presence didn't cause any mishaps, although she would emerge every so often to deal with a group of Void creatures with her scythe â and Izaac and Mazurek had alerted them over the communication balls that the seals had been lifted, although Mazurek's message had come with the added problem that Vaal had run off.
"Tomix, the doors!" the Hero pointed as they paused to catch their breath. "They're open!"
Tomix hung his head sadly. "But at a cost of two innocent lives..."
The Hero placed their hand on his shoulder and squeezed it. "They will be remembered, and they will be honoured. We can't save everybody. But their demise will not go unnoticed. Envy will pay for this, Tomix. He will."
"The Hero is right," Aegis nodded solemnly. " After all this is over, I can search for their souls and notify their families."
Tomix inhaled deeply, collecting himself, before raising his head again and adopting a look of determination. "Let's goâ"
"You can't," a voice broke in, and three figures stepped into the doorway, blocking their path.
Tomix scowled. "More of Aspar's minions?!"
The Hero folded their arms. "Let me guess..." They looked at the dark green humanoid gargoyle, the one who had spoken. "You are Green..." Next they turned to what looked like a fusion of a basilisk and a human. "You are Brown-ish- Red..." Finally they turned to the final minion, a moglin with a human face. "And you arOHMYGOODNESSWHATAREYOU?!"
"I'm very sorry," Green intoed. "But we can't let you through."
Tomix snarled. "Well I'm sorry too, because I don't care!"
The battle that followed was long and hard â Envy had obviously prioritised fighting skills in his minions that made it very inconvenient for whomever they were fighting â but eventually they were defeated, Red and Blue having dissolved the way Yellow had.
Green had sunk to his knees. "I have failed...but it's okay..." A wry smile formed on his lips. "I'm free."
Tomix looked down as Green shattered into pieces. "Now we can go, come on!"
"Tomix, I think we should wait for the rest of the crew," the Hero cautioned. "We don't know how exactly strong Envy is..."
"I think that is wise," Aegis added. "I shall go and check to see how far away they are."
"OkayâŚ" Tomix nodded reluctantly as Aegis vanished. "But we can't wait tooâ "
Before he could finish his sentence, the building shook with an ominous rumble.
The Hero glanced around them. "That doesn't sound good. The more of us there are to confront him, the more likely we are to be able to stop him."
Tomix's chest was heaving and his eyes flashed about wildly. "NoâŚNO! AEGIS!"
A block of ice materialised and fell away to reveal Aegis, looking rather confused. "Is everythingâ?"
"Synchronisation!" Tomix yelled, desperation colouring the edges of his tone.
Aegis frowned in concern. "Tomix, we've never tried it. Besides in your current state, synchronisation would be very unwiseâŚ"
"PLEASE!" Tomix begged, his voice breaking.
Aegis met Tomix's eyes before bowing his head and nodding, resting his hand on Tomix's chest. There was a flash of icy blue light, as it looked like Aegis melted into Tomix's body before it cleared to reveal the Soulweaver standing there, eyes and hands glowing white and blue, a helmet like the one Aegis wore over his head, the colour back in his face but the corruption from his shattered SpiritLooms having worsened and spread down to his elbows.
"I don't care if there are more minions in my way," Tomix declared, voice echoing slightly and sounding like a mix of his normal voice and Aegis'. "I'M GOING!" With a flash, he shot off into the chamber, only leaving behind the faint blue glows of his figure.
"TOMIX!" the Hero yelled after their friend. "DamnâŚwe need to go after him. Are you two with me?" The Dragon gave a determined chirp and Pandora murmured 'Always' over their bond. The Hero nodded before running after Tomix. "He doesn't have to do this alone."

It seemed that everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.
As the Void Ship had approached the Ynnungaap, the trithril coating had failed and the void drive had been disconnected somehow, exposing them to the full force of the void storms as they travelled through to the Deep Void. The Void Ship was badly damaged, Riadne estimated that there were at least thirty injured, and there were a few crew members that had been lost.
People were panicking, Eirn grimly revealed that the ship was floating aimlessly adrift and in yet more bad news, the portals that Izaac had created to link back to Ravenloss had been dispelled. Yashta had found the culprit behind the sabotage; a half woman, half forest fury who called herself Beige and claimed that her purpose was to delay them. The stress of the quest had been wearing on Tomix for some time and at Beigeâs statement he almost snapped, before having to excuse himself to calm down, leaving the Hero in charge.
âOkay,â the Hero took a deep breath before turning to the others. âAlright... Yashta, please interrogate the suspect. Mazurek, check if we can still set course. Izaac, help Riadne with the injured crew members. Eirââ
A flash of icy blue light interrupted them as a familiar voice spoke up. âCan I do anything?â
The Hero whirled round in surprise. âAegis?! H-how did you get here?â
Tomixâs SoulAlly grinned. âOh I can be anywhere Tomix is. We're linked, that's how it works.â
Despite the situation, the Hero returned the grin. âThat's... fantastic! Can you create a portal that can take us back to Ravenloss?â
Aegisâ expression fell. âI'm afraid I don't know how to do this.â
âOh...â the Hero bit their lip. âThen how exactly did you get here?â
âThrough the Plane of Elemental Spirits. And no, I can't transport living people through it, sorry...â
The Hero sighed. âI... see. Well, if you want to help, okay. Aegis, keep a lookout for anything unusual.â
Aegisâ grin returned. âAye aye!â He gave a salute before vanishing again in a flash of ice.
The Hero gave a small smile. Throughout their quest to find the materials and personnel for the Void Ship, they hadnât seen Aegis much â aside from a small blue flash every so often when Tomix was weaving â but it was a comfort to reunite with him. With the situation they were in, any help was welcome, and the stress Tomix was under with the Void Ship and, well, everything that was going on with As-Envy, the steadfast comfort and support that Aegis would offer him was a real asset. Their fingers travelled down to rest lightly on Pandoraâs cube, and through their bond they felt her send a small rush of reassurance before turning back to the others.
âWhere was I? ... Ah! Eirn, update me on the ship's status. Can we fix anything other than the Void Drive?â
Eirn frowned. âThe hull is damaged, we lost most of the sails, most of the food supplies and some of the people...â
The Hero sighed. âDarn. I'll go find Tomix.â
****
The news Yashta gave them about Beigeâs fate was very concerning. The Hero glanced at Tomix, whose eyes had widened, and bit their lip as the movement highlighted the large bags under them.
Heâs going through so muchâŚ
This is baaaad,â Tomix said solemnly. âVery bad. I didn't know Envy was capable of such a thing.â
âWe will get to him Tomix,â the Hero assured him. âWe will!â
Aegisâ voice broke into the conversation. âUmm... excuse me?â
Tomix turned his head towards his SoulAlly. âYes, Aegis?â
Aegis pointed off into the distance. âWe're heading towards a floating island. I thought you might want to know.â
Tomix and the Hero exchanged a hopeful glance before rushing to the nearest telescope. Tomix got there first, pointing it in the direction Aegis had indicated and peering through it.
âEirn, good news! I see a forest!â
Eirn perked up. âThat means wood. Great! We might be able to repair some of the damage.â
Tomix passed the telescope to the Hero and they raised it to their eye. âIt's surrounded by some kind of magic bubble.â
Tomix nodded, folding his arms. âWe'll deal with it when we get there. We need to form a scouting team once we get ashore. Who is available?â
Yashta inclined his head. âI am.â
âCount me in,â Matey smirked.
âAlways,â the Hero replied.
Tomix nodded again. âAlright, I will go with the Hero. Yashta, you will go with Matey. Look for usable materials and anything edible.â
âMay I go, too?â Aegis asked eagerly.
A smile tugged at the corner of Tomixâs lips. âI would rather have you on the ship. We don't know what we can expect on this island, so you should stay here and protect the crew. No one is better at protecting than you Aegis!â
Aegis grinned, giving a thumbs up. âUnderstood!â
It wasnât long until the ship reached the island, passing through the bubble encompassing it with surprisingly little problems.
Tomix turned to the Hero. âLet's go.â
The Hero grinned back at him as they disembarked, the two of them going to the right with Yashta and Matey going left. âA seemingly abandoned island in the middle of the Void? I donât think itâll be the greatest challenge weâve ever faced.â

Of course, things could never be that simple. Theyâd expected to find void creatures on the island of course, but those strange cultists with the twisted masks? That was certainly a surprise, although the two of them were able to dispatch them with ease, fighting side by side as they had done ever since the Hero had first come to Ravenloss.
âWhat was that all about?â the Hero frowned as they caught their breath.
Tomix had an expression of confusion. âThey... they had the mark of Paââ
The cube on the Heroâs belt began to flicker before the familiar circular beams of yellow light emanated from it and Pandora appeared in a flash, looking off into the distance with a melancholy expression.
â... Pandora,â the Hero finished Tomixâs sentence in a breath.
âI know where we are,â Pandora murmured, still looking off into the distance.
âWhere?â the Hero asked softly.
Pandora looked at the two of them over her shoulder. âIn my memories...â
