I always have to check when ever someone says Yankee because I don't know if they mean USAmericans (which I'm fine with, its better then American or what I just said), Northern USAmerican (I'm from California so I don't see myself as that kind of Yankee. Also these people tend to be Lost Causers and i don't care for their opinions ((California dodged being a slave state cause we were more racist then we wanted cheap labor I'm not hiding behind my statehood as if it was some kind of bastion, we were just a whole different kind of racists))) or Northeastern USAmericans (again, Californian, and also its a super niche part of the country so I might be totally out of context on what they mean). It's just one of those terms that has changed so much over the years on who it's referencing, I get confused when I just see it out in the wild and am forced to go "Which group do you MEAN?"
Unless its someone calling out white people being racists. I just assume its all of them
May daily pic challenge - pouts #8 If you forget about the haircut, this is a 10 out of 10 picture.
Until recently I didn't know the term "yank/ee" was used outside the US, until my Australian friend mentioned it. From what I looked up on the Internet it's just used to refer to Americans in general and it isn't always an insult but apparently other Americans get offended by the term anyway??
I'm confused. If someone called me a Yankee I'd just assume it was a neutral way to call me an American and wouldn't be bothered by it.

Undoing Americentrism:
The US and the UK aren't the only two countries with internet access. Stop accusing people of being British just because they don't use American English.
The US is also a former European colony. The primary victims of the colonisation by the British are Native Americans, not the European colonists who didn't want to pay taxes to the King. You aren't special.
Other countries are also cultural melting pots. Other countries have immigrants. The US having immigrants is not evidence of it's superiority over other countries, nor is the US inherently more diverse than other countries.
A lot of other countries (but not all countries) have their own indigenous peoples. Indigenous has never only referred to Native Americans.
AAPI is an American thing. Equivalent terms don't exist in the Pacific islands because Asians and Pacific Islanders have different experiences with racism.
The USD is not the only dollar. When you say something is 15 dollars that is a different amount depending on what dollar you are actually talking about.
Different countries have different sign languages. ASL is not the only sign language. Stop accusing deaf people of "faking knowing sign language" for not signing using ASL.
Yankee means American. Everywhere except for the US, Yankee means American.
Just some fun stuff Ivan did with AI - because I miss seeing him in a good costume with a beard, so I like this. 😄👑
