As requested by a lovely anon and a few others (and I was eager to write more about this anyway :3). Tis a continuation of thisÂ
The corner of Saitamaâs lip twitched upward as he brushed a finger across a flower held delicately in his hand. It was a burnt orange, its petals ruffled, folded around each other. It was a carnation, if he remembered correctly. He tended to focus very little on living things as there was really no point to, his line of work steering completely in the opposite direction.Â
He heard a rustling behind him but he attributed it to the wind shuffling the grass about. It wasnât until he felt another presence beside him that he deemed it appropriate to look to his right, his eyes instantly flickering away the moment he realized it was Genos sitting down beside him.Â
Saitama fixed his gaze entirely on the flower in his hand, its rich color slowly fading the longer he held onto it. Genos was so warm beside him, his heat sliding over his frigid and lonely bones so firmly and pleasantly. It took all of his self-control not to lean closer, push further into that radiant warmth. His body was buzzing, begging him to get closer. His entire being was zeroing in on Genos, drawing him in like a moth to a flame.Â
Saitama cleared his throat and said, âHey.â
âHello.â
Even Genosâ voice was mesmerizing. It was as if he had been born entirely with all of the qualities Saitama found attractive. Not fair.
Saitama chanced a glance to his right and found Genos staring straight at him, his gaze intense, his eyes enchanting. Saitama turned to look at him fully, a furrow at his brow.Â
âYouâŚdo know who I am right?â
Genos blinked at him twice before saying, âOf course I do.â
âAnd that doesnât bother you? Or anything?âÂ
The blonde tilted his head, his gaze drawing skyward. âNo. It never will.â
That made something fuzzy blossom in Saitamaâs chest, something that he would later admit felt nice.Â
Regardless, he scoffed and looked away. âThatâs surprising. Everyone gives me a wide berth when I walk by.â
âThey simply donât understand you,â Genos said with a frown.Â
âAnd you do?â
The blonde let out a deep breath, âYou are someone the world sees as dangerous despite how obvious it is that you arenât. Theyâre scared of you.â
Saitama shrugged noncommittally. âEh, whatever. As long as they leave me alone, I donât care what they think.â
Genos drew his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his legs. âIt doesnât bother you?â
âNope,â He replied, his eyes finding the flower again. It was beginning to shrivel in his hand, its colors near indistinguishable. âI know who I am and thatâs all that matters.â
Genos didnât reply and they lapsed into a short silence before Saitama couldnât help himself.Â
âAre you?â
âAm I what?âÂ
âScared of me,â Saitama said, keeping his voice decidedly neutral. Â Â
âI wouldnât be sitting here if I was.â
Saitamaâs lips very nearly twitched into a smile. âSorry. Just had to ask.â
He saw movement out of the corner of his eye, Genosâ hesitant hand coming into view mere seconds later. There was a brief pause before he laid his hand over top of Saitamaâs and, oh, it was so warm and soft and everything Saitama wasnât. It was perfection.Â
The wilted flower began to rise, its colors returning to its stem and petals. It wasnât often that Saitama saw something grow in his hands. He was used to the decay of leaves as he went by, the souring of the air the longer he stayed in one place, the grass dying beneath his feet. But thisâŚthis wasâŚ
Saitama looked at Genos, the blondeâs attention occupied by the flower. He hadnât of realized how close Genos had gotten, how he was leaning toward him, their shoulders nearly brushing. At any distance, it was hard to mistake Genos as anything other than beautiful but this close, with their faces mere inches apart, he was gorgeous. His golden hair fell over his forehead just enough to touch his eyebrows, his eyelashes distracting at this distance.Â
âThis is the way Iâm supposed to be,â Genos said softly. âThis is what Iâm supposed to do.â
âBut?â
"They always said I was more like the sun than the earth. I wasnât supposed to come out that way. They say I have a fire in me that hurts. Thatâs why my eyes are the way that they are because âIâm burning myself from the inside outâ.âÂ
âI like them.â
Genosâ gaze flickered up to him in surprise, those golden irises looking at him as if he had said something preposterous. âYou do?â
âI think theyâre pretty,â He said, resisting the urge to touch the blondeâs cheek. Genos ducked his head and Saitama used his free hand to tip his chin back up. âIâm not afraid of you either.â
When Genos smiled, it was as if the world had gotten ten times brighter, as if Saitama was looking right at the sun. The flowers around them seemed to gain more color, the grass greener than he had ever seen. Even the carnation trapped between their hands grew in intensity, its orange now fiery. Perhaps there was even a faint glow to Genosâ skin, light radiating from his arms, but it was hard to tell.Â
Genos opened his mouth to say something, his other hand dropping to Saitamaâs thigh. However, someone called his name, startling him slightly. He looked to his left and frowned.Â
âI have to go,â He said.Â
Saitama nodded and tried his best to look impassively indifferent to Genosâ departure. The blonde looked down at the carnation before he touched the ground beside them, just at the cusp of the rotted grass beneath Saitama. A beautiful white flower began to grow as Genos stood up.Â
âItâs a gardenia,â He said hurriedly before walking away.Â
Saitama looked down at the flower and placed the carnation beside it. He smiled, his chest doing that pleasant fluttering again. He dropped backwards with a sigh, his eyes falling closed. He stretched his arms out, careful not to disturb the two flowers. He wondered when he would next meet Genos and hoped that it would be very soon.Â
