WIP WEDNESDAY
So I haven't worked on my SDV 5+1 this week because my brain has decided she wants to do a super Langsty bday fic for VLD. What was supposed to be a quick 500-700 words has turned into 5100 (and counting) words. Oops.
Sooooo for a change of pace, here's a snippet from that.
As he took deep breaths, he could feel his rapidly beating heart begin to slow down. The prinkling in his eyes going away the more he blinked back tears. Shiro's words had been bouncing around his head throughout training and, as much as they hurt, they weren't exactly wrong. He had been distracted today. And it's not like Shiro would just throw out criticism without being able to back them up, so Lance had to assume he hadn't been doing his best.
And it's not like he expected Shiro to go easy on him because it was his birthday. The Galra wouldn't take it easy, so why would Shiro?
"Hey man, I know Shiro was kinda really hard on you today. Are you okay?”
He glanced over at Hunk who was eyeing him, concern written all over his face.
Sure, of course Hunk would have picked up on that. Hunk was usually almost as observant as he was, but he had also been hyper focused on the task at hand. Although, to be fair, Shiro had come at him relentlessly today, so it wouldn't have been too hard to notice.
"No, it's fine. I wouldn't have expected him to go easy on me just because it's my –” Lance cut himself off at the last word, turning away from Hunk, ‘birthday’ getting stuck in his throat.
Taking a final deep breath, he put his best grin on his face as he gets up from the chair. “It's totally fine. Shiro just wants to make sure I'm at my best.”
Resting an arm around Hunk's shoulders, he guided them out of the room towards the changing room and showers. The pit in his stomach tearing open a little more as he took one last look behind his shoulder as they left the training deck.
