1992 Jaguar XJ220 Coupe
It’s 1992 and Jaguar’s XJ220 is the fastest production car … in the world.
It was built as a GT racer, and Le Mans champ Martin Brundle set a Guinness World Record of 217mph (349kmh) just shy of the 220 that Jaguar were aiming for.
Its history is chequered after that, the GT class it was built to race in was slowly phased out and Jaguar ditched the V12 for a V6 before release which lead some buyers to cancel their orders.
This was Jaguar doing what they do best; making cars that are beautifully stylish and stupidly fast. They’re never polite or proper or popular but everyone who loves cars can’t help but admire them.
